Report of the City Assessors.
We publish elsewhere tho official report-ol the
city assessors, and desire to direct particular at
tention to the same. It will be found to embrace
much valuable Information regarding the won-,
tlerfbl growth of Atlanta, and other matters of
statistical interest. To the shrewd financier it
must bo a matter of wonder how the bonds of
tho city have so depreciated in the. face ot so
vast an amount of taxable property. The finances
of no city in the Union have a more solid basis
limn ours, and if we do not enjoy a pecuniary
status ns healthful os our own pure mountain
nir, it is not for the want of substantial resources.
We ask a careful examination into the statement
of the assessors.
Ruscle Coming.
Labor, in tho shape of fine, athletic Germans,
lias commenced pouring into the United Stulcs

is saiu that seventy thousand able-bodied men
and women liavo engaged passage by Bteamer,
and otherwise, for this country. It is understood
that the Prussian conscription laws are driving
them out of tho country. They would find a
hearty welcome in Georgia.
Death of Dr. Holmes Steele,
