An effort was to have been made to arrest
(he negro Austin Luckie, who perpetrated the
outrage recently upon Mr. Quinn and his ser
vant, on Peach-Tree street. Information had
reached the police of his whereabouts, and it
was determined to secure him, if possible, at a
late hour, last night.

A fancy negro from Huntsville, Alabama,
reached the city some days ago, and niter figur
ing largely around town for several days, the
state of ids finances necessitated the pawning of
a lady’s elegant silk velvet cloak, worth $100,
which lie had in bis possession. Tho transac
tion took place witli a negro man hero for the
sum of $15, but Capt. Ed. Murphy, thinking there
was something wrong, took charge of llie cloak
and gavo the negro his $15, whereupon a dis
patch came from Huntsville to arrest the fancy
chap, lie being a notorious rascal, nis arrest
wascficcted, and the gentleman from Huntsville
remains a guest of tho city.
Col. Sibley'* ■Iendqunrtern.
The Commandant of Georgia, his stall', and
Hie several headquarter attaches, have reached
the city, and taken possession of the second
story of Mr, Markham's Empire Building, on
Whitehall street, where Col. Sibley will liave
his headquarters.

A Nuisance.
A city correspondent writes to this journal
that a miscellaneous assemblage of half grown
hoys and men arc accustomed to visit Hie Mine-
nil Spring in the altcrnoons, and so deport them
selves as to make their presence quite objection
able to ladies. For instance, our correspondent
slates Hint they whistle, yell and romp over the
premises in a most riotous manner, and as very
many of our ladies are being attracted thither
both at morning and evening, the above disor
derly demonstrations nro by no means ngrccablc
to them. If there is any way to abate sucli a
nuisance, wo ask the proper authorities to liave
it done.
Itadlenl Drummers—“ Hone Diint
“SllOCR.”
A republican mass meeting was recently held
in Savannah lor the purpose of ratifying all that
was done at the great demonstration in this city
on the 4th of July, and a resolution to that cll'ect
was unanimously adopted. It seems to Iiavt
licen it “big thing,” according to tho Nars, oi
that city The speakers were numerous, and
chiefly composed of traveling vagabonds whose
mission i very where, in luilding up a Republican
party, is to embitter the feelings of the negro
against his only friend—his former master. The
ex-Rcv. wooly-hcad J. if. Simms, who was con
spicuous here in his ora.ory on Hie 4th, made a
speech, in which lie declared Hint things were
“done up just right in Atlanta,” and that the
cause was upward and onward in this section!
The Hon. A. VV. Tenney, of Hew York, who
was the “orator of the day” hero on the 4th,
also made a flaming speech at the Savannah
meeting. Among other things, lie said
" The soldiers of tilt North and the sol
diers of Hie South sleep in a common
grave, and our corn and wheat fields will
ho greatly improved years lienee in plowing
up their bones, as they are the common dead of
a common country.” Such is Hie exact languugo
which Hie Newt pluces in his mouth; hut what
Hie gentleman meant, we aro at a loss to deler-
mine, unless it was ids purpose to convey, in a
very mild manner, the rare excellence of super
phosphate and bone dust! Verily, Mr. Tenney
you are u business-like individual, and it may
yet transpire that you bear hack large orders to
some establishment whose speciality is "fertili
zers.” The Hon. Mr. Wilson was in the line
"shoes,” and run a vigorous "colder” schedule
during ids visit among us. There is a “method
in other tilings than “madness”—radicalism
business—hone dust—shoes—ball!
Our Visitor,..
Our visitors from Augusta had a uh r.y time
yesterday. Tho morning was occupied by them
in a general promenade throughout the oily in
small squads, and from llie bright, approving
smiles worn on their rieli ebon faces, we are led
to hope that Atlanta pleases them. On the first
night of their arrival a grand fancy ball was
given at Lovejny's Hall, on Peach Tree street
where Augusta “tripped the light fantastic" glori
ously. Another ball was in full hlaststllie same
time in the basement of the old Decatur strec
Masonic Hall building, the two rivaling eac!
oilier in splendor. The latter was an ind. pen-
de.it aflair, and in no way connected with Hie
grand demonstration in honor of our visions.
The Terpaichorcan festivities were resumed yes
terday alternoon at “Liberty Hall,” where Au
gusta outstripped everything, and where at last
accounts the dance was still going on.
irilllns Vlslerii*.
The steam lire engines are yet industriously
engaged in filling flic dcw cisterns from the
mall streams which Mr. Crawford dammed up
some days ago. The matter is receiving much
attention iroin Mr. Gullalt, who is both a work
ing member of Council, and one of the most ef
ficient ofticcrs in all the Fire Department.
Quick Transportation.
We learn that parties in this city yesterday re
ceived goods from New York in five days and
two hours, coming over Hie route ol which the
Georgia Railroad forms a part. This is evident
ly an improvement on any previous shipment ol
goods, and shows that that line is waking up.
Wc record the fact with pleasure.

Atlanta Mineral Sprling*
Atlanta, Ga., Juno 27,1807.
Vo/ A. J/i'iDM, M. I).:
Df.ah Bin—Having examined your analysis
of tho water of the Atlanta Mineral Spring, and
having been rolicltcd by many of our follow-citi-
zons to furnish flic public with the water through
llie famous “Arctic Soda Fount," charged (as wo
would have In lmvo it) with nn oxtra amount of
carbonic acid gas, wo dcBiro to have your valua
ble opinion ns to wlictlior this extra quantity of
gas would improve or otherwise chungo its me
dicinal properties. Relieving Hint in giving your
opinion you would confer a favor on our gener
ous citizons, and awaiting your early reply, wo
remain, very respcctlully, yours.
Redwink & Fox.
Oxfohd, Ga., June 28,1807.
Jlettn. Redwine <f: Fox :
Gentlemen—Your respectful communication,
with the inquiry which it contains, lias been re
ceived, and I avail myself of the earliest conve
nient moment in which to reply.
I am glad to learn that the waters of llie
Mineral Spring, located within the limits of At-
auta, and whoso analysis was handed to you ou
csterday, is about to receive the refreshing con-
ributiou of your admirable “Arctic Soda Fount,”
and is likely to command, therefore, a more ox-
ensive public patronage. These waters, I am
atified—amid Hie diversified and imperative
laims of other interests, which lmvo, heretofore,
largely absorbed the attention of tho energetic
and indefatigable population of your rejuvenated
ity—have been too long overlooked er neglect-
d, containing, as they do, a valuable coinbina-
ion of chemical elements, decidedly sanitary in
their efiucts upon the human constitution, and
destined to win a higher appreciation, when
tested in their application to many forms of
disease. In eases of ancemia, where there is an
xccss of watery particles in the blood, and con
sequent paleness and debilily, ferruginous wa
ters liave been known, by experiment, to double
the quantify of iron in the circulation—an ingre
dient which exercises nn important influence
upon tlie function of respiration.
The impregnation of this spring, therefore,
with one of the soluble salts of iron, is valuable
in the treatment of such cases. Its hydro-sul
phuric acid, (sulphuretted hydrogen,) does not
precipitate any of the salts of iron, and is ad
dressed, mainly, in its action, to the liver and
the skin. Its salim constituents are cooling and
aperient ; and its carbonic acid gas—while it
holds in solution the proto-carbonate ol iron—is,
in excess, highly grateful aud invigorating to the
stomach, although the same element is deleteri
ous when inhaled by the lungs. In answer to
our Inquiry, then, whether or not it (i. c. the
water of llie spring,) would he improved by the
extra amount of carbonic acid gas it would con
tain, when issuing from the fount, I reply that
its excess is incompatible with no ingredient of
the compound, and being the feeblest of ail llie
acids in its chemical reactions, will separate no
other acid present from its adopted base, hut will
act favorably as a tonic aud gastric invigorator;
while its reduced temperature in passing through
the refrigerating reservoir, and its sparkling ef-
fervesence on its exit, will contribute largely to
supply the goblet of the fount with a delicious and
healthful beverage, free from all the evils entailed
by the frequent draughts of more questionable
stimuli lrom other quarters. At the original
fountain, however, when Hie water is freshly
dipped lrom the basin, ail its remedial properties
maybe certainly secured; and the gentle excr-
ise of an early morning's walk, or a pleasant
evening’s stroll will only contribute to the bene
ficial etlects of the beverage. A. Means.
