Welsh was killed, hut all subsequent search has
failed to discover his remains. Sergeant Wil
liams lay dead beside his horse. Horse and rider
were stripped hare of trappings and clothes,
while around them the wounded homes and the
trampled, bloody ground showed the deuperuliou
ol the struggle at that point. A portion ol the
sergeant’s scalp lay near him, but the greater part
was gone. Through his head a rifle ball had
passed, aud a blow from a tomahawk lmd laid
the brain open above the lull eye. The nose was
cut in two, and a horrible gash had severed the
throat. Seven nrrows were standing in different
parts of the body, having their feathered ends in
the air. Corporal James K. Ludlow was shot
through the body with an arrow, and his recovery
is not even possible. We had also about twen
ty either killed, wounded, or captured.
Misceoenation.—Statements have been go
ing the rounds that General Sickles had com
pelled the recent marriage of a white man,
Thornton, to a negro woman. The Fayetteville
New, alluding to the matter, says that the whole
afinir was done under no compulsion hy the
military authority or any other agency. An or
der was granted hy General 8ickles, giving per
mission and authority for the marriage to take
place, but it was coupled with an express disap
probation of the step to he taken.
Things in Missocui.—The Vigilance Commit
tee still continues to reign supreme in Johnson
county, Missouri. A few nights ago a disposition
manifested itselfto mob the office of the Journal
newspaper at Warrcnsburg. Two meetings were
held by the Vigilants looking to this end; hut it
was finally abandoned as a had job. The feel
ing against the Journal grew out of the fact that
the paper would not go the length of the Vigi-
lants in their acta, and had commented severely
on some ol their doings.
Tennessee Item.—A gentleman who resides
in Brownsville says that last week severs
blacks, who lived close neighbors to David
Nunn, Esq., Radical candidate for Congress,
died, and their friends were too poor to bury
them. They applied to every prominent Radi
cal in and about Brownsville, and notone would
give a dollar to bury negroes that couldn't vote.
Application Was then made to Conservatives,
who gave what was needed.
Tub Finality.—Sumner says that the South
shall not re-enter the Union until each boutlieni
State shall establish a system ol schools, in
which white children shall he permitted to sit
alongside of their little black masters and mis
tresses. How do you like that mustard, Messrs,
bnuthern Radicals?
Another Murdeh.—George Wright, uu ex-
Coulederate soldier, was shot, and killed at Cal
houn, Kentucky, on thu 13th instant, hy W. F.
Little, an cx-ofliccr of the Federal army. Wright
had charged Little with receiving stolen goods.
The latter wns arrested alter tlie shooting, hut
subsequently escaped.
AIohe Executions.—Dispatches received in
Washington from Monterey, confirm Hie intel
ligence of the exccuUuu ot Yiudauri l, Marquella
und O'narron by the Liberals. O’Hairou was
un ex-Conlederute officer who joined the Im
perial army.
Sentenced koh Like.—The l’ule, who
made tho attempt on the life of the Czar of
Russia, has been found guilty, with extenuating
circumstances, and sentenced to hard labor for
life.

GREATEST WONDER OF THE AGE!
IIAIVI/H DN'tA'bKHA.I.
WASHING MACHINE!!
SPECIAL NOTICE TO THE LADIES.
I T has long been felt and acknowledged that a Washing
Machine would yet lie invented that would he nim-
ide, cheap, and more effective than any of the Machines
heretofore offered to the public. Such a Machine is now
offered without fear of competition.
1st. One woman will do more with a Machine than
six can do without it. It will wash live dirty shirts
(Including wristbands and collars) perfectly clean lit from
lour to eight minutes—this we guarantee, or no sale.
2d. It requires uo skill to operulo it, as a girl 13 years
old has washed (in Atlanta) FOUR DOZEN PIECES IN
ONE HOUR I
8(1. It hikes at least one third leas soap, and will pay
for Itself every year In the saving of clothing, as it acts
so delicately on the fabrics that bank hills can he washed
without breaking—something no other machine can do.
We manufacture these Mm nines in this place, and shall
sell them at
TEN DOLLARS,
the same price they are sold Tor In New York. There is
no Washing Machine on the murket Unit can be bought
for even twice the money, and no Machine that will com
pete with it in the performance of its wor .
These Machines uro on exhibition in this city, at the
store of JOHNSON A ECHOLS, Whitehall street.
Mr. BKNTLY owns the Patent Right for this remarkable
Machine In all the Southern States. Liberal Inducements
will be offered to gentlemen desiring the exclusive right
to sell these Machines In counties and districts, or States.
Call on, or address, D. S. BKNTLY A CO.,
Rome, Ga.
&T Any one infringing upon this Patent Right will be
prosecuted according to law, and anyone giving Informa
tion of the same, will be liberally rewarded.
4 Great Laltor-Saviue: Machine.
We, tho undersigned citizens of Rome, would say, in
heludf of ‘Tlall’s Universal Washing Machine,” after full
trial and use, that, in consideration of its cheapness, the
durability of the Machine, the ease and quickness of mo
tion, the small amount or soap required, and thu protec
tion of the clothes, would recommend It to a generous
public.

gerfcQt satisfaction, an 1 J “ * "
nhor-Saving Machine.
DIIIECTIONN FOR ILSK.
I.et the Machine down into a common wash tub, by
cutting notches Into the sides, lor the iouruals to rest in,
until it comes within one inch of the bottom of the tub ;
till witluhot water until the water covers the pebbles in
the machine two inches; wet the clothes in warm water,
(it is better to soak clothes over night,) then rub a little
rtolt soap on all the dirty places; then put the clothes
into the machine with the pebbles, and always fill the ma
chine half full of clothes, shaking them outaa they are
put iu; then close up the door ana turn the crank from
three to five minutes, keeping a slow, steady motion un
til the dirt isout; then rnn through a wringer; then boil
as usual; then put tho clothes hack into the machine
with the tub full of cold water; give the machine eight or
ten turns and your clothes aro ready for the bluing water,
npty c
If any of thu
pebbles become broken, pick them out.
