Ai.ternate clouds, sunshine nml showers
wore the order of yestorday, but withal was the
day a pleasant and quiet one, socminf' indeed
like a beautiful offspring of May transplanted in
to burning August The heat was tempered by
delightfully cool breezes, and the dust that some
times becomes so annoying in our busy thorough
fares, was sprinkled into submission by the show
ers- But summer, delightful us it has been, and
much as we love it, will soon give place to au-
trinn with its golden grain, and wealth of good
things which come in its train. Soon do we
hope to see commerce shake olf tho lethargic
slumber that tor months has bound it like nspell,
and awake to new life. With the earliest breath
of autumnal winds let our people—oppressed
and in shackles though they he—make fresh re
solves to rebuild their shattered fortunes, nnd
forget, in the magical influences which a busy
season imparts to everything nnd everybody,
their political woes!
Express men the world over are a kind-heart
ed, genial, live set of fellows, and never lose a
chance to get ofl a good thing. A lew days ago
one of the fraternity in Louisville received ndis-
pntch from the Superintendent of the Pacific
Railroad, at Omaha, as follows:
“ For how much money will you come out and
be my assistant V"
His answer was: “ For no much money—too
much Injun!"
Concert at Joneaboro’.
The Ladies’ Cemetery Association at the above
place will give a grand Concert at the Academy,
on Friday evening next, the 30th instant. We
have seen a programme, nnd can promise all who
attend a rich treat. Musical talent o( a high or
der from several places will assist on tho occa
sion, and the ladies of the Association hope that
their efforts to raise means for the cemetery they
are now arranging will ho successful. Maj. P.
II. Loud informs us that the work of disintering
the bodies was commenced yesterday, and will
he continued until all the dead of that locality,
whose graves are rapidly being obliterated, are
neatly arranged side by side in a cemetery.
Parlies from this city desiring to attend the
concert on Friday night next, may tako the 7:10
o'clock P. M., Macon train, and reach Jonesboro’
in full time. Returning, can reach Atlanta at 4
o’clock next morning.

To the IntelligencerTo those who are fond
of discussing grave, important and profound
questions, 1 would suggest the following:
1. “ Have the sluggishness of mind and body
and the tendency to assail by violence the right
of opinion and discussion, engendered by habits
acquired during the existence of slavery and the
system of politics in the South, uuflttcd the peo
ple for such sell-government as is implied by
tree speech, free press, and tho fullest peaceable
discussion of all public questions?”
2. “ Whether, at public elections, should the
votes of faction predominate by Internal sugges
tionsorthe bias of jurisprudence?"
1 would advise that they he discussed ns one
question by connecting them together witli the
conjunction "or"—thus making one the alllrm-
ative and the other the negative side of the
question. My friend “ Ranee Sniffle” insists
that they are nonsensical, whether considered
collectively or separately, but you know he is a
little dalt, and hence would not he expected In
appreciate or even understand metaphysics.
Should any society undertake to discuss the
subject, I bespeak for you and myself an invita
tion to hear the debate. "Ranee” hogs to be
remembered in this connection also. But should
auything occur to prevent our attendance, you
will please inform us how it may ho decided;
then 1 will have sufficient evidence to convince
“ Ranee " that tho questions, taken together, arc
capable of a decision.
Confusedly and distractedly yours, &<•..,
Ned Brace.
