Mr. Harrison’s lecture on Tuesday night
was largely attended, mul we will guarantee that
no audienco in this city wns ever so richly least-
ed before for a period of ono hour and Hirer-
quarters. The lecturer seemed to be perfectly at
home on one of the most difficult of all Subjects
—that of " Woman.” In a brief newspaper
paragraph we can only say that Mr. Harrison’s
lecture evinced a high order of learning, and a
vastness ot research that enabled him to thor
oughly “master tho situation.” Ilia thoughts
were dressed up in both chaste and elegant lan
guage, and there was a pleasing intermingling of
sly humor here and there, which relieved the
solid argument, and gave spice to the whole. It
was eminently a success, and we cannot thank
the gentleman too proluscly lor giving us so
much from a mind richly stored.
Tiik house of a gentleman named England,
out beyond “Shermantown,” was entered day
before yesterday, in broad daylight, by a white
man and negro, and a lot of provisions taken.—
The lady of the house, on seeing the departing
thieves, gave chase until they disappeared in a
corn field.
A mysterious matter, wherein a newly horn
infant has disappeared, was being yesterday in
vestigated among some (reedmen near the race
track. The parties will he arrested to-day. it
is thought that crime will be brought to light.
A foot race between two young men named
Casein and Grady took place at the race track
yesterday afternoon. Cassin was the winner.
Doth are said to be fleet of foot.
New cotton was sold in Albany last week at
28 cents. It wns classed low middling.

'fhe Telegraph devotes two columns to the
colored mass meeting at Macon, on Tuesday
last. It says there were iu attendance between
45,000 to 8,000. Col. II. P. Farrow, of this city,
was the first speaker. We have space for blit
one extract from his speech, and that a short
one. The Telegraph puts this language in the
mouth of Mr. Farrow:
“1 am a Republican, said tho speaker, and do
not intend to vote for auy man on account of his
color, but solely for his fitness for office; at Hu
same time, he believed ho should prefer tin
colored man, if qualified.”
The next speaker was the Rev. II. M. Turner,
(colored) of Macon, whose speech the Telegraph
pronounces tho best of them all. lie told tlio
whites, among other tilings, that he asked no
more for his own rnce than he was willing to
grant to theirs. We are glad to sec that Mr.
Turner thinks a white man as good as a negro.
His magnanimity deserves to be put upon re
cord !
G. W. Ashburne was the next speaker, who
announced himself as the “Grand Marshal for
Georgia” ol all the loyal leagues. He came to
Georgia to radicalize it, and had brought $10,000
with hint for that purpose—was hacked by
$8,000,000. He first opened the ball at Colum
bus, and we now know the result.
James L. Dunning, of this city, followed Mr
Ashburne. His remarks are elsewhere noticed.
The next speaker was John 1’. Caustiu (color
ed) Irom Wrshington, D. C., whose speech the
Telegraph characterizes aa n bitter, venomous
radical harangue, Mr. Caustin having no use
whatever for tho white man. <
The assemblage was an orderly one, the blacks
having everything their own way.
