We liavo nmicetl a paragraph going the rounds
of the press, staling that a negro in Virginia was
. a.lually turning white. We can beat that in
Georgia. In this Slate a number ot white men
are rapidly turning black, and the st-angest part
"t it is the change of color has commenced in-
'.r ..illy and is gradually extending ouiwartis to
the surface.
A' the great negro mass meeting recently held
'« Macon, Dunning ol Atlanta It rc|ioited to
i tve boldly advocated the distribution of the
i in Is ot the State amongst the colored people;
■md t man named Farrow, who also hails iroin
A.i.iDta, and who, like the Billy Goat, has more
i '-trd than brains, is reported by the Macon
TdfjrapK to have said, “ I am a Uepuhli-
' .iu and do not intend to vote for any man on
account of his eolor, but soMy for his’titnesu tor
"dice. At the same time I believe I thould prt-
! r -Jit euiortd I nan, if qualitied." During the
war this man was employed by the Confederate
*' 'Vernmeut, not. It is true, in a very responsi
ble position ; bat he was supposed to he white,
aad had, we believe, the title of Captain. What
he is now our readers may judge from the ex
tract we give trom his Macon speech.
These Are the men who aspire to be leaders of
the great party. Was it ever heard of before, iu
the history ot the world, that such men as Ash-
burn, and Markham, and Farrow, and Dunning
were looked to to shape ana direct the political
destinies ot an intelligent people ? If these are
the only hope ot Georgia, well may Gen'l Pope :
conclude that the virtue and intelligence ot the !
South will soon be transferred to the colored
race.—Cheroku Qtoryian.
Mexico as rr Is.—Mexico, under Juarez is 1
worthy of her history anytime for the last quar
ter of a century. A letter from the capital, dated
August 4lh, says :—[.Tvw Fud Exprww.
• The streets are iu the most horrible condi
tion. not a laborer employed in cleaning them

mud. The health, in consequence, becomes daily t
worse. There is no money There are no in - •
coming duties from exports or imports. The
Government has revoked its decision of July :||.
in reference to the re-payment of duties pah 1 the
Empire, and the result is, un exportation of =il- ;
ver."
The press and people are so defiaut of the j
United states as to write and publish as follow-
“We gave the United States open dedance by <
'•x cuting Maximilian, and they are now aware
t.iat the Mexico of to .Jay is not the same as she I
was in l*t5. Then she was divided, and could
not resist the Americans, but now, »he is united,
and can tell the world to stand aloof.” The delight
of the Rojos over the barbaric deed at tie retaro
increases as they hear the laments of the Christ
ian and civilize, 1 nations. Americans are call, d
cowardly because you receive tbe insults of Mexi
can pure-blooded Indians, and your influence
..ver Mexico has no weight. “ Prisoners." these
braggarts also remark, “are made of passengers
on board ot American steamers, yet tbe United
States, on account of fear of a war with Mexico,
Jar is not reclaim these prisoner* as did England
m lull in the case of Mason and Slidell." Tne
United States have thus fallen into disrepute
with seven millions ot wandering leperon and
Indians.”
i iExer u. Beackeoahd.—The following ex
tract from a private letter, dated New York, Sep
tember 2d. and received in ibis city, will interest,
the innumerable friends of the distinguished ltero
to whom it refers:
General Beauregard has lieen stopping iu
our city toi several days past, and ia quite a
lion, but a very secluded and quiet one in his

and so gentlemanly and unobtrusive iu hi*

DisaPPOfNTED.—“There is many a *ltp l.c-
twest the cup and the lip," is a trite old ada-c
which ha* been verifietl in the case of the <eh i*r
Union I.eaguor* here who, a week ago, were

Like most communities this i* cursed with a
class ol men who are afflicted with an unquench
