Tiif. kcseral services of Mr*. K. It. Walker
took place at 8L Philip’s Church yesterday after
noon. and were attendeil by a large iiiimlxr ol
the triends and relatives ol Unit universally lie-
loved lady. At the conclusion of the service,
her remains were borne to llicir final resling
pi nee at the cemetery, the cortege being long
and imposing.
Thi* sad event brings sorrow to one of our
most worthy families, and though not unex|>ected
hy a large number of friends who have lor
months been anxious inquirers alter the declining
health ot Mrs. Walker, the deep grlet of that
family is not tho less shared hy the entire com
munity. Her last hours were attended with
more physical pain than is usually allotted lo
human endurance, hut her pure spirit triumphed
over il all, and she died iu the happy conscious
ness of that eternal rest which awaited her be
yond the grave.
By the announcements of the Deputy Mar
shal iu another coluniu, it will be seen that
warrants in bankruptcy have been issued against
the estates of Lewis 8. Salmons, of Allnula,

B. Beazeiy, of Stone Mountain.
A family at Patterson Depot, Mineral county,
West Virginia, are in want of a lady teacher to
take charge of two young girls aged respectively
13 ami 15, and a boy aged 11 years. The teacher
will be expected to instruct them in the English
branches, French, and music on the piano. A
good home will be given lo a competent Indy.—
The Rev. R K. Porter will give further informa
tion.
The Shrrmantown disturbance of Monday
night was by uo means a small altuir. Nine sol
diers (or persons wearing the uniform) mndo a
descent upon that locality and perpetrated all
sorts of outrages, os wc learn from several
sources. A small store kept by a negro man
was entered, and such goods taken as pleased the
fancy of the intruders. The storekeeper nnd his
wife were both beaten. In like manner were
other place*, the houses of treedmen, invaded.
The raiders were resisted at one or two places
by the negroes, and a fight or two ensued. The
house ol Flipper, a colored boot-mnker, a very
worthy pcrsOD, was entered, and the said Flipper
severely beaten, his property taken, &c. Several
places udjacenl to the place of Mayor Williams
were visited by the wretches. The damage was
all done before the police reached the scene of
trouble, and consequently no arrests were made.
We are told that the negroes o( Shermanlown
were in a high state of excitement, and soon col
lected together in numbers sufficient to protect
themselves, but the enemy had retreated; such
in tact is said to have l>eeu their indignation thut
it was with some difficulty the police prevented
a party ot about forty ol them (rum demolishing
a small house—a sort of bar room—where it was
supposed some of the raiders bad sougtit refuge.
On Tuesday night it was. rumored among them
that further incursions would be made upon
fSheimantown, when there was, we learn, a gen
eral rallying of ehouy to the extent of one or
two hundred, all of them armed. But there
was no disturbance.
These arc about the facts, as obtained hy us
from reliable persons. Wc trust Hint the post
commandant will inquire Into such conduct on
the part of the men of this garrison. Our negro
population are entitled to protection in their new
relations, and should have it. Have we a “Bu
