Ilis uutitnely end seemed to have moved no

discovered a rattlesnake iu the road. One lined
lus head with a stick, while another having
made a slip-knot ot his necktie, aud fastened it
to a long stick, slipped it over the snake's head,
••dulled" it, as they say here, as they would with
a tisli with a horse linir noose. They afierward
brought their captive to the spring, where they
were in a liigli state of excitement and glee. The
snake rattled away fiercely, and darted out. its
vicious langs viciously, hut they held him tight
and refused to kill him. He was to precious—a
knowing old negro remarked: “Why dem ’ere
boys thinks more ol dat ting dan dty does of it
two dollar and a halt gold piece.” This seems
to be a negro's idea of a small fortune.

A talk with Romkko.—'The editor of tin*
Sun has had a conversation with Mr. (Mexican)
Minister llomcro, and, among other things which
that functionary is reported as saying, is the fol
lowing :
* * Your question, sir, is very properly put,
said Mr. Komcro, in reply to an inquiry whether
a representative ot the United Stales could have
saved Maximilian it at the city ot Mexico; but
your Minister at the city of Mexico coultl not
have saved Maximilian’s lile. President Juarez
felt it imperative upon him to approve the sen
tence ol the court. The welfare of Mexico de
manded tbnt Maximilian should be shot. He
had made himself the tool of others before, and
tiiere was no surety that he would not tin il again.
"is Maximilian’s liody still in Mexico, and if
so, will it he delivered to Austria ? ” we inquired.
1 believe that his body is iu Mexico, nnd that
it will he delivered to Austria, provided, sir, that
the request for it is unaccompanied by threats.
How do the Government nnd people ol Mexi
co regard the United States?
In the most grateful manlier.
How does President Juarez regard Secretary j
Seward and President Johnson ?
In llie same way that a man should regard
those who have been his friends. President
Juarez lias been in the country, aud admires its
Government and people.
What almulSanta Anna? Will Juarez execute
him ?
lie is a hud, unscrupulous mnn, who has had
the fate of his country moro than once in his
hands, and deserves to lie punished lor Ills l i- t
escapade; hilt he is hardly worth hanging, he is
too old, and I think President Juarez, will im
prison him till death ri.ls his country of u rascal.
lit answer to various other questions, Ilis
Excellency said that the elections lor President
and Congress would lie held in November next,
when Juarez, who was the only candidate lor
the Presidency, would be elected.
Mr. Komcro will leave lor Mexico in nlmiil two
weeks, nnd the present Secretary ot the Mexi-
c in Legation at Washington—Mr. Mariscal—will
till his place pro tern.

SPECIAL NOTICE TO TIIE LADIES.
I i’ lias long been felt and acknowledged that a Washing
Machine would yet be invented that would he sim
ple, cheap, and more effective than any of the Machines
heielolore offered to the public. Mich a Machine is now
offered without fear of competition.
l.-t. One woman will do more with a Machine tliun
*i\ can do without it. It will wash five duty shirts

•Ul. It takes at least one third less soap, and will pay
for itself every year iu the saving of clothing, at it acts
so delicately on the fabrics tlmt bauk bills can be washed
without breaking—something no other iimchiuu can do.
We manufacture these Machines in this place, and shall
sell them at
TEN DOLLAHiS,
the same price they me sold for in New \ork. There is
no Washing Machine on the market that can be bought
lor even twice flic money, und no .Machine tlmt will com
pete with it in the performance of its wor .
These Machines are on exhibition in this city, at tlio
store of JOHNSON & FCilOLS. Whitehall street.
Mu. BKNTLY owns the Patent Right for this reumrknhie
