Concordia.
This association gave another one of their
dr&malic performances Christmas, P. m., on
which occasion a limited number of invitations
were extended to friends of the members com
posing that body.
The hall was filled with an intelligent and
fisLiouable audience. The ladles “looked their
best,' aud with their smiles contributed to vn*
liven the occasion. All appeared merry and to
enjoy the entertainment
The plays were “Robert Macaire" and "Batsy
Baker." In the former, Mr. A. S. Lae, as Rob
ert Macaire, did remarkably well. It is eeldon
that nu amateur has such a thorough under
standing and us good conception of the play as
we find in this instance. In the dying scene be
rendered his part quite affecting and natural.—
Were this young man to take to the stage, he
trould become prominent as an actor. HU com
manding figure, gestures and deportment on the
boards bespeak fur him a.bright future. The
other characters iu the play did fairly. “O, my
poor nerres” as personated by Mr. E., was well
received and elicited applause.
This was followed by Betsy Baker. The same
kept the audience in continual laughter. Tbo
#tar of the play, “Betsy Baker,” as rendered by
Mrs. J. S., "the landlady’s girl and sister of six
teen Bakers, and all girls,” was excellent. She
dressed and performed the character almost to
per led ion—as natural as though she was adapt-
tiie stage. Miss S., as Mrs. Mauser, was at
home iu the character, and won the favor of the
audience.
Mr. L. L , as Mr. Mauser, came out in glowing
colors, and so sustained bis caste throughout to
he gratification of those who witnessed the
play. The same was received with repeated out-
bursts of applause.
Mr. Crumy, by Mr. J. 3., was rich. He did
not at all seem basbtul on the stage, though he
,is just ingratiated himself.
‘Betsy Baker was a complete success, aud re
acted credit upon the participants and the asso-
ciatiou.
Music hath charm, to soothe the savage breast,
And bend the knotted oak,"
was done up in good style by Professor Clark,
with his band.
The Concordia is thriving, as it well de
serves. When wo consider that the performers
ppeared ou no stage heretofore, and now do so
well, it speaks in high terms for that organiza-
May it ever ^prosper iu its object of
promoting literary, dramatic and social amuse
