84 ptata« TBS MINSTREL. From the Delaware Gazelle. THE WAR-KINO. The war-king comes, with the sound of drums, And his banner bedecked with blood; The trump of war, from his crimson car, Announces his way through the flood. His eye-balls roll, and his sable soul Gleams forth from his horrible head; Ilia chariot-wheels, and his horses' heels. Smokes over a bridge of the deud. From yonder shore, through a golf of gore, The war-king comes in flame; The widow’s groans, nnd the orphan's moans, Announce to the world his fame. Death drives his car, nnd the fiends of war In the dance of ghosts are heard; Dread demons howl, and the ominous owl Blends croaks with the boding bird.* case, in ms tram, tne gnosts ot the stain Hover round the war-king's crown; And mercy bleeds, for his dark deeds. While carnage looks on with a Irown. Across the wave, where the wild winds rave. And the sea-gods sound the shell, The war-king comes, with his rattling drums, And his death-darts hot as hell. On freedom's land, moy his dreadful band, And his flames be seen no more; For where he comes, with the sound of drums, There’s a gush of n gulf of gore. MILFORD BAUD. * The raven. Apinrovcd method of keeping crows from corn lands.—Take a quart of tiaiu oil, as much tur pentine, and bruised gun powder: boil them to gether, and when hot, dip pieces of rag into the mixture, fix them on sticks in the field. About four are sufficient for an acre. The birds as suredly will not approach the spot. The ex pense of the above remedy, for the evil occa sioned by large flocks of ravenous birds infest ing corn fields, is a trifle compared to the injury sometimes sustained in a few hours. To dissolve Indian Rubber.—A friend in Charlestown (says the New England Farmer) informs us, that, by keeping Indian Rubber in warm neat’s foot oil for uvo or three days, it will become completely dissolved. A com position of Indian Rubber and neat's foot oil would probably render boots impervious to water. FIFTY DOLLARS REWARD.
