Everyone, acquainted with the geography
and history of the Southern states, knows, that
between those largo rivers, the Oakmulgeo and
Chatahoochy, lies a vast extent of territory,
all of which’ was lately held by the Aborigines,
but is now mostly in quiet possession of the
Georgians.
A portion of this region, particularly that
above the —degree of North latitude, is
picturesque and fertile; and has gained, in the
short space of a few years, an accession of pop
ulation and wealth, in a ratio seldom surpassed.
Counties have been organised; and towns and
villages, with their seminaries of-learning, their
temples of worship, and halls of justice, arc
starting up in this late wilderness, in a manner
altogether .wonderful.
