Acts have-been passed by the present Le
gislature, for disposiug of the lots and incorpo
rating the new town of Columbus, at the Falls
ofthe Cliatahoochy. Already tho site attracts
considerable interest: about forty buildings
have been erected, among them two taverns,
a number of stores, shops, dec. We arc at all
.times pleased with the indications of enters
prise, and particularly when exerted in con
verting the wilderness into the abodes of civil
ization, and in opening new avenues of com
merce. The advantages of navigation on the'
Cliatahoochy, will operate at no distant day in
making the new town ono of considerable im
portance. When Georgia obtains possession
of all the territory sho holds in re version, and
the resources of tho country become developed,
cur commercial towns will acquire a propor
tionate importance. Tho Savannah river on
one side ofthe state; the Cliatahoochy on the
other; and tho Ocmtilgce and 'Oconee in - the
centre, will be the channels of an extensive
trade, through which Commerce,; aided by in
dustry and-enterprise, will pour into tho laps
ofourprincipul marts, immense wealth. We
visit our young sister to enjoy her full-share. •
