our corn testes and civilities to an extent which
looks too much jikb purchasing his favorable
report; we are rather too anxious to make
ourselves agreeable, and arrange every thing
in ample u;der, to excite his admiration, and
draw forth a spirit of friendly commendation.
'We do this; instead of cheerful hospitality and
liouest blunt ness, in throwing open to his view
all that relates to our country and our people,
and Confiding more in tho value and stability of

pointment will be felt on perusing this work
yet, with its many errors - of fact, and many .in
hypothesis, tlie candid reader will consider it a
