THE THIh I l,E.—Air,, Kinlock o/Kiploch.
Green grows the thistle, the thistle, the thistle.
By nature ’twas planted for liberty’s bower; .
With thorns at the foemanto bristle, to bristle,
flower J ^ iU fr ‘ en,,s wUh a 8 ? ft blooming
The proud Roman eagle came flying, came flying,

But wearied and torn with trying, with trying.
Afraid of the thistle flew bleeding* away.
How gaily it bloomed on the border, the bolder,
The moor and the mountain, |et valor proclaim!
Foi there the bide bonnet ip order, in order,

The storm of oppression rule blowing, rude blow,

Again should it ravage the world's wide field ;
O ! still may the thistle he growing, be growing.
To glorious freedom a shelter and shield.
From Gabritlle, a Tale of the Strut Mountain.
“THE SWORD SONG.”
Thou sword upon my belted vest,
Why glitters thus thy polished crest,
Kindling high ardors in my breast.
From thy bright beams.—Hurrah!
A horseman brave supports my blade, v
Proud for a freeman to be made— '
For him I shine, for him I wade
Through bloodond death.—IIurrah(
Yes, my good sword, behold me free,
In fond affection bound to thee,
-As though thou wert betroth’d to me,
A first, dear bride.wHurrah!
Soldier of Freedom, I am thine!
For thee alone my beams shall shine-*
When, soldi*:, -hull I call thee mine,
Joined in the field.—Hurrah!
'When the shrill trumpet’s summons fliss*»
When red guus flash upon the skies—
'Then will our bridal sun arise
And join our hands.—Hurrah I
‘O welcome union! haste away,
Y.c tardy moments of delay; ,

»To wear thy wreath-—Hurrah! q
Why restless in the scabbard, why, • . -
'Tliou'iroi' child of destiny I
•Do wild, as if the battle cry
Thou hcardest now.—HurrabJ
impatient in my dread reserve,
-Restless in battle fields to serve,
-I bum onr freedom to preserve
Thus «i>h bright gleams.—Hurrah j *
■ Rest, but a little longer rest,
The short space thou shall he blesf.
Within my ardent grasp comprest, _
-Ready for fight.—Hurrah!
'Then let me not too long await—
I lose the glory field of fate,
Whore Death’s rich roses bloom, elate
in bloody bloom.—Hurrah i
'Then cuf, and from thy bondage fly,
Thou treasure of the freeman’s eje J,
Come to the scene of slaughter hie,
Our nuptual hopie.—fflurraU! ..
Thus be our glorious marriage tie
Wedded beneath heaven’s canopy;
Bright as a sunbeam of the sky ,
Glitters my bride.—Hurrah!
Then, forth for the immortal strife,' ,
Thou German soldier’s now made wife I

Embracing thee I—Hurrah!
