I will here remark, that this lime has been tested
by some of tbe best judges and mechanics of our
country, and found to be good. The only objection
to the lime is, it being a shade or two darker than
the Northern lime; but independent of this, for brick
work, inner coats of plastering, tanneries, cement
and durability, it is interior to none. Annexed is a
certificate tram tbe two principal workmen tu Macon,
who have been in the habit, for the last three years,
ol using the same, which will show for itself. I could
furnish many more, but deem it unnecessary, from tlie
known standing of those gentlemen as muons in this
section of tbe country; which too is a sufficient warran
tee against any imposition upon the public. It is
true the prejudices against tbe lime of this country,
did, to a considerable extent, o|ieretc against the lime
of Crawford county; and it was with much difficulty
those prejudices have been removed, which, for some
time, kept the latter timeout of the market. Still,
there is yet some in existence, which I hope to do a-
way, and atrial la only wanted lo remove it. The
demaud has increased and continues to increase,
which is« convincing proof of its genuineness. Ex
periment and experience have, so far as it bus been tri
ed. proved it equal to the Northern lime, when in on
unslaked stale. I will further add, that I have no de
sign npon the community in which I live or upon the
public. But having for my object, a wish to make
a business of it, should it justify me in so doing, and
holding the only quarry in this immediate section of
country, are my reasons for this ex|>osition. For a
further proof of my motives, take tlie article, and try
it; and iftt does not come up to the recommenda
tion, I will have nothing for it. [Here follows the
certificate:]
YVe have been intbe habit of using Mr. Joseph
Biksitt’s Lime, burnt In Crawford county, and fiud
it as good as any we have for use in this place, either
for brick work or plastering, when it is in an ucslak-
ed state. The only difference between that and the
Northern Lime is, that the former is not quite as
white. DAVID F. YVILSON
