Stock Feeding in Ohio.—A correspondent of tho Scioto (Ohio) Gazette, has seut to the editor of that paper some facts relative to the business of ‘‘Stock feeding,” which is extensively carried on iu tho Bcioto Vtllley. Front these it appears that the first stock or store cuttle were driven into the Eustcrn market iu the your 1801, and the trado continued successfully for three years. It Was soou found that there was no market at home for the surplus grain raised lit Ohio, nud tho distauce too great to scud it to tho Eastward for sale; in consequence of which u citizen of Cliilicotho determined to try tho experiment of fattening cattle at homo. .Sixty bond were fed iu the year 1804, aud the owner drove them to Bal timore, the nearest market, and to his great ns- touislimout the project proved prefituMe. Tho succeeding year froni two to three hundred were driven to the same market. In 1808 adrovowas sent to Philadelphia, and subsequently others to Ncw-York aud Boston; nud tho number now exported from the valley ulous amounts to tuu thousand head per auuum. Tho cattle, iiowever, arc uot all raised in Ohio; more than half of them are collected from difiur- cat parts of tho Western Stales, tho difficulty nud labour ol which aro exemplified iu the l'ulluiviug paragraph fi-om the letter referred to:—“ Our cattle dealers think nothing of mounting their horses aud riding two, three, four, five; six aud seveu hundred miles iu search of stock, and when they procure and collect a drove, follow them for mouths through thu wilderness, carrying their pro visions on pack horses, and cncampiug iu tho woods and prairies until they reach hero, thou f roze or feed them, ami proceed with them to on histcru market. Thus have cuttle becu purchas ed at the Council Bluffs, up tho Missouri, driven here and fed, aud then sent on foot to the Phila delphia, New-York, aud Boston markets, and from thence shipped to tiio Wosl Iudies—tho cu- tiro operation of which consuming something like three years.” Who’s got the Cholera Morbus!—Tho excito- mem which is uow so general throughout the me tropolis, occasioned by tho fear aud alarm which pervade'tho minds of every class of society, at tho expected visit of this dreadful scourge, was cousi- yk-rubly heightened by tho following circums:auco, which lately occurred at a newspaper office in Fleet-street:—The editor had scat down to tho printer, to bo composed, n long article on '■ tho cholera morbus 1” From its extreme length, it was divided into six parts, and given to as many compositors to “set up." Just afterwards a timid gentleman, who hud been for many weeks past adopting every precaution to prevent au at tack of ibis fatal complmut seizing him, came into tho office to ebat away half mi hour with tho “Reader.” lie had uot been there five minutes before tbo “reading buy” entered iu great liuato, aud inquired “Who’s got the cholera morbus I” “ 1 have”-—“ I have”—•“ I’ve got it,” loudly re sponded the aforesaid hulf-a-duzcu compositors. “Tho d—1 you have!” shrieked out the timid gentlemen in question, more dead thuu alive with fear and agitation. “ then I’m oiP’—aud, “ suiting tho nctiou to the word,” ho jumped down the first flight of stairs, aud was clear oil' the premises in a twinkling.—London paper.
