Few Tragedies have been read with such
avidity as this of poor Mary Findley, which has
already run largely into the second edition.
May he, whose “ unsufferini ’ kingdom yet shall
come” render it a mean of preventing the re
petition of such horrid and imes and cruelties.
The following critiyur from the pen of the ce
lebrated American Historian, cannot but inter
est the public.
“ Charleston, May 16, 1807.
Dear Sir—l thank you for your much es
teemed Pamphlet “ God’s revenge on Mur
der.” No man can read it without having his
risible faculties often excited—No man can
read it without having both his horror of evil
and his respect for virtue increased. Y'ou have
the art of blending instruction with amuse
ment—Wiiile you keep your readers in high
good humour by the trolicksomcness of your
manner, you are inculcating upon them im
portant moral and religious truths, conducing
to their present and future happiness.
