Mr. Cults remarked that his colleague had
quoted the price of salt at two dollars per bush,
el. He had before him a late Boston price
current, by which it appeared that salt was nut
more in price than seven shillings, or seven
shillings and six-pence per bushel.
Mr. Livermore said, he had received infor
mation in a letter, stating the fact he had men
tioned t (and here Mr. L. read a passage from
a letter, to that effect) or he ceitaioly should
not have mentioned it; and he thought it his
duty to propose some measure for tliu alleviat
ing of the consumers of that article. His col
league knew as well as he did, that prices cur
rents stated in newspapers, were frequently in
accurate.
On motion of Mr. Bacon, who said he
thought the great national qoeslirn still pend
ing before the house, ought to have print ity
of all other subjects,
Ordered,. That the said proposed resolution
do lie on the table.
A message was received from the Senate,
by Mr. Otis, who delivered for concurrence the
bill 11 to provide for manning, arming nod fitting
out, all the public ships of war, vessels, and
gun-boats'of the United States,” which had
been this day passed by senate. The blanks
were filled up in the senate, by which it ap

ordinary seamen and lioys, who arc to be en

leaving a discretion with the president to dis
charge them sooner if he thinks proper. Also
the bill appropriates a sum not exceeding four

The house resumed the consideration of the
unfinished business of yesterday, and after fur
ther debate arising thereon, Mr. Rhea and Mr.
Taggart having s|token at large,
A division of the question on the resolution
dopunding before the house, was then called
lor by Mr. D. II. Williams and seconded; where
upon,
So much of the said resolution being read, as
is contained in the words following. Io wit:
Received, That it is expedient to prohibit by
law, the admission imo the ports of the United
States, of all public and private armed or un
armed ships oi vessels belonging loGreal-Url
tain or France, or to any other of the belligerent
powers, having in force orders or decrees, iolat-
ing the lawful commerce and neutral l ights of
the United States”—Whereupon,
A motion was made Ivy Mr. Vanhorn, and
seconded, to amend the original i,'solution ns
reported from the committee of tin: whole
house, by striking out after the words “ goods,
wares, or merchandize,” the following wolds,
“the growth, produce, or mauufactu c of the

that which establishes it between thcUnitdl 1
