It is scarcely necessary, on the threshold of a busi ness re-union, I should repeat the warning so often given to my friends,—to beware of all those spurious and deleterious compounds which, under the specious and false titles of I reported Wines, Bra ndiea, Holland Gin, Liquors, Ac., have been equally destructive to the health of our citizens and prejudicial to the Interest of the legitimate Importer. Many years of my past life have been expended in anopen and candid attempt to expose these wholesale frauds; no time nor expense has been spared toac complish this salutary purpose, and to place before my friends and the public generally; at the lowest possible market price, and in snch quantities as might suit their convenience, a truly genuine imported arti tie. Twenty-five yean’ business transactions with the largest and most respectable exporting houses in France and Great Britain Have afforded me unsurpass ed facilities for supplying our home market with Wines, Liquors, and Liquers of the best and most ap proved brands In Europe, in addition to my own dis tillery* in Holland for the manufacture of the “Schie dam Echnapps.’ The latter, so long tested and approved by the med ical Faculties of the United States, West Indies and South America aa an invaluable Therapeutic, a whole some, pleasant, and perfectly safe beverage in all cli mates and during all semens, quickly excited the cu pidlty of the home manufacturers and venders of a spurious article under the same name. I trust that I have, fAtef much toil and expense, sur rounded ail my importations with safeguards and di rections which with ordinary circumspection will in sure their delivery, as I receive them from Europe, to all my customers. I would, however, recommend in all cases where it is possible, that orders be sent direct to my Depot, 22 Beaver street, New York, or that purchases be made of my accredited agents. In addition to a large stock of Wines, Brandies, Ac., in wood, I have a considerable supply of old tried for eign wines, embracing vintages of many past years, bottled up before the commencement of the war, which I can especially recommend to all connoisseurs of these rare luxuries. In conclusion, I would specially call the early atten tion Os my Southern customers to the advantage to be derived by transnfiuing their orders without toss of -time, or calling personally at the Depol, in order to insure the fulfillment of their favors from the present large and well selected assortment. Although all this was implied in the old oath, it has been proved necessary that the oath should be more explicit and circum stantial. A Railroad Romance—An Actual Faat. [From the NaahviU* Union.] One of the prettiest and pleasantest morn ings of May, or near the closM of that de lightful month of balmy airs and fragrant flowers, the train for Louisville was freighted with an unusual number of elegant womeu and gay and nicely-dressed men. As usual, amongst the latter was a large proportion of Uncle Sam’s pets with shoulder-straps.— There was no longer any apprehension of guerrillas or other Tuarauders on the road, and after getting fairly under way, the pas sengers, catching the spirit of lovely morn, addressed themselves to the task of making time pass off pleasantly. It Was not long ere all, who were so dis posed, were enjoying themselves In soma way. On one ot the seats in the ladies’ car was a married lady with a little daughter ; opposite facing them was another child, a son, and a colored “lady”—we believe they are all “ladies” now—with the baby. Tfle mother of these children was a beautiful ma tron, with sparkling, eyes 4n exbuberant health, and vivacious spirits. Behind her sat a young Lieutenant dressed to kill, aud seeking a victim. He scraped up an acquain tance with the mother by attentions to the children. It was not long before he was es saying to make himself very agreeable to her, and by the time the sun began to decline, one would have thought they were old fa miliar fiiends. The Lieutenant felt that he had made an impression—bis elation manifested it. The lady, dreaming of no wrong, suspecting no evil, was apparently pleased with the casual acquaintance. By and by the train approach ed the tunnel at Mulbrough HIU. The gay and festive Lieutenant leaned over and whispered in the lady’s ear. It was noiiced that she appeared as thunderstruck, and her eyes immediately after flamed with indigna tion. A moment more and a smile lighted up her features. What changes! That smile, it was not of pleasure, but was sinis ter. It was unperceived by the lieutenant She made him a reply, which rejoiced him very much. For the understanding properly of the nar rative —this o’er true tale—we must tell the was whispered and what re- the Lieutenant, “I mean to when we get into the tunnel ! H Replied the lady, “It will be dark ; who. will see it ?” Into earth’s bowels—into the tun nel—ran the cars. Lady % and colored, nurse quickly changed scats. Gay Lieutenant threw his arms around the lady sable, pressed her Checkio his, and fast and furious rained kisses on her lips. In a few moments the train came out into the broad daylight; white lady looked amazed, colored lady bashful blushing ; gay Lieutenant befogged. “Jane,” said tbe white lady, “what have you been doing Respondedceloredlady, “Nothing!” ’“Yes you have,” said the white lady, not in under tone, but In a voice that attracted the atten tion of all in the car : “See how your collar is rumpled and your bonnet mashed.” Jane, poor colored beauty, hung her head a mo ment, the “observed of all observers,” and then turning around to the Lieutenant, re plied, “This man hugged and kissed me in the tunnel.” Loud and long was the laugh that followed among the passengers. Tne white lady enjoyed the Joke amazingly.— Lieutenant looked like a sheepstealing dog, left the car and was seen no more during the trip. ‘ Complex Relationship.— A correspondent ol Harper’s Monthly is involved In domestic perplexities. He writes:. I got acquainted with a young widow, who lived with her step-daughter in the same bouse. I married the widow; my father fell, short after it, in love with the step-daughter of my wife, and married her. My wife be came the mother-iortew and also the daugh ter-in-law of my o W'atber; wy wifes step daughter is my and I am the step-father of my mother-in-law: My step mother, who is the step-daughter , of my wife, has a boy; he is ’naturally my step brother, but because he is the son of my wife's step-daughter, so is my wife the grand mother ol the little bov, and I am the grand father of my step-brother. My wife has also a bov my step-mother is consequently the step-sister of my boy, and i» also his grand mother, beeause he is the child of her step son • and my father is the brother-in-law of my son, because he has got his step-sister for a wife; lam the brother of my own son, who is the’ son of my step-mother; I am the brother-in-law of my mother, my wife is the. aunt of her son, my son is the grandson of my father, and I aru my own grandtather. The model lodging house system of Lon don is about to be introduced into the city of Dublin. —Pleasure seekers in great numbers are now seeking rest and enjoyment at the White Mountains, and indeed throughout all New England.
