The White Fibeman of Savannah—Establish
iiENT and Re-Organization of companies—Meet
iso of Young America Fire company No. 6—The
young m«n of Savannah are evincing an activity in
Organization and Ro-Organlzatlon of white fire com
panies that is commendable.
When all the organizations are complete, Savan
nah vrlU have the following companies constituting
the white Fite Organization of Savannah :
Oglethorpe lire Company, No. l, H. F. Willing
Fresiiient.
Washington Fire Company, No. 9, James A. Barron,
First Foreman.
German Fire Company, No. 10, Henry Blun, First
Foreman. y
Young America Fire Company, No. 5, officers to be
elected.
liictTopolltan Fire Company, Dr. James Stewart,
President.
This latter company wlli in a few weeks have a
- steamer,” the benefits of which are almost unknown
to our citizens. A steam fire engine for the city is
much wanted. Should a vessel get ashore and bilge,
the engine can be placed on board, pump the vessel
out, and the company thereby receive salvage.
Saturday evening last a number of the Young
America Fire Company, No. 5, assembled at the Fire
a ms’ Hall for reorganization. Mr. Chas. J. White
was requested to act as Chairman, and Mr. W. D.
Duon as Secretary.
Mr. While br.edy explained the object of the meet
ing. On motion, It was resolved, seconded and
passed, that Messrs. Charles J. White, W. D. Dixon
and C. F- Btoncho be appointed a Committee to se
lect offloera and anew name for the Young America
Fire Company, No. 5.
Hem. rnlUp M. Russell, honorary member, was ad
ded to the above Committee.
The meeting then adjourned to meet on Wednes
day evening next.
Gbn. Butler not Rksionbd —A Washing
ton despatch says: In regard to the numer
ous statements put forth of late to the effect
that Gen. Butler had repeatedly tendered his
resignation, but that the government refused
mo accept it, it may oe said that the office!*
fwbo would naturally receive such a docu
ment have no knowledge whatever that Gen.
I Butler baa ever tendered his resignation, and
! furthermore, do not believe he ever did ten
der it in any manner which would leave it
open for acceptance. It may also be stated
for the assurance of all general officers who
really de-ire to resign, that there will be no
heeitancy whatever in accepting their reslg
nations.
Tat a? or Cast. Wirz.— Capt Henry Wirz
was arraigned before the Military Commis
sion «u Monday last charged with malicious
ly, wilfully ana traitorously combining, con
federating and conspiring, together with
Robert E. Lee, James A. Seddon, Northrop
and others, to injure the health and destroy
the lives ot Union soldiers in rebel and South
ern prisons, and also with ninrder, in viola
tion of the lawa and customs of war. The
