J Dickerson A Cos. Mr. F. M. Myrell, the wharf agent of the Oak, is ready to receive freight, as Is stated In the adver' tlement. Extrusive Robberies—'Two Stores Entered and Robbed of floods to the Vulue of 93,800. On Wednesday night last ’the store of Messrs. A. Myers A Cos., on Broughton street, was entered end robbed of thirty-two pairs of pants and thirteen dress coats, the goods were of the finest quality, valued at about nine hundred dollars. On Thursday night last the store of Mr. Bernard Kohn. north-east eorrner of Jefferson and Congress streets was entered and robbed of goods to the value of two thousand dollars. The store of Messrs. Myers & Cos. was entered while the proprietor and his asssistants were at tea j at their residence corner of Hull and Jefferson streets. The thieves smashed in one of the panes of glass just above the back door and entered the store, by creeping through the sash, they then opened the back door and committed the robbery. The store of Mr. Bernard Kohn was entered in a similar manner, the thieves smashing In the glass window above the door on St. Julien street. STo clue has yet been found to these daring robberies. It Is certain that In Savannah there must Ire some place of deposit for these stolen goinls, and we be lieve that they are not sold In Savannah but shipped to the Interior by the receivers. Mr. S. Z. Murphy, Superintendent of the Union Society at Bethany, is in the city and has in his pos session a number of letters and messages from the boys to their relatives In the city, viz : Caroline Brown, Miss Ellen Gill, John L. Robertson. Mrs. M. ! J McGlashan, John S. Sheppard, Miss Carrie Rober,* Mr. James M, Cercopley, Miss Carrie Spauldorf, Mrs. Lopez, Mrs. Ennis, Solomon Lavlne, Mm. Georgia Cotton, Mrs. Julian Mease. Mr. Murphy will be in the market from two to three o’clock to-day, and will deliver lettem and messages to those who may call on him at that place. Any letters or packages for the boys at Bethany, left at the store of Messrs. John M. Cooper A Cos., be fore Saturday evening 6 o’clock, will be taken charge of by Mr. Murphy. another Light Draught River Steamer.— By reference to our advertising columns, it will be seen that a light draught propeller, the L. Enos, is an nounced for her first trip to Augusta, by Mr. L. G- GuUmartln. Our merchants have displayed credita ble energy In supplylqg steam communication with the Interior via Augusta, In the absence of rail road transportation. The L. Enos Is well suited for the river trade. Police Regulations.— I The ■ police of our city are now Instructed to arrest and bring to the city guard house all colored persona found upon the streets alter nine o’clock at night. The employees of colored persona, should they de sire thqm to be on tho public streets between the hours ot nine p. m., and five a. m., must give them passes, stating the hour that they are limited topaßs. as also the nature of bearet’s business. This regu lation, lt is thought, will have a tendency to lessen the nnmber of thefts and other crimes which are dally reported In the city. The police, we are pleased to observe, are very vigilant in the disc ha re of their duties, find under Capt. R. F. Aiken, their Chief; we trust they will be able to preserve order, and protect the persons and property of onr citizens. Darino Rosasav.—One of the boldest pieces of viUteiiy that has been perpetrated In our city of late, occurred la-' evening, a little alter seven o'clock, at the residence of Mr. Charles Braen, on Jones street. W hile the family were at tea. the nurse went up stairs with an Infant in her arm-. As she was about passing Into the chamber, she was met In the passage way by a man who, with an oath, aimed a blow at her head with a bottle which he held in UU baud, and which she barely dodged. The girl, in great fright. Immediately gave the alarm to the family, while, as she thinks, the man, who was dressed in blue cloths, passed back Into the chamber. Mr. Holse.v Bruin rushed Immediately upstairs, but the thief had ef fected his escape by jumping, as is supposed, from the second story window, as a gold watch, which was taken, was afterwards sou nd in the sand In front of the house. The police was called and a crowd of neighbors Immediately assembled, by whom search was made In every direction, but no trace of the robber could be fouud. On examining the room It was found that the wardrobe had been cut open, evidently with a large knife ; clothing and other articles were pulled from the wardruiie and a box containing valuable papers, with jewelry and other articles of value were placed upon the bureau near the widow ready to he thrown out. The thief succeeded in getting off with about SSOO in green backs and S2OO In two and a half dol lar gold pieces. It Is hot known whether any jewelry was taken. A watch hanging in a slipper case near the window was not taken, a fact which shows that the thief had very little time after entering the room until he was discovered by the nurse. The lady ol the house had left the chamber only a few minutes before the family sat down to tea. When It Is considered that the robbery was perpetrated early In the evening, at a time when the family were up and about, it cer tainly was a very bold transaction, doubhless under taken by someone acquainted with the localities and who knew where the money was kept. It Is highly probable, too, that the thief had an accomplice In the outside of the building who aided him In his escape. He certainly was a very deliberate thief as he lit up the gas In the chamber and carried off the box of matches. The Union Shades.— Last evening Mr. Terrence Nugent, Jr., having enlarged and improved ills saloon known as the “Union Shade,” on the north east corner of Bull and Broughton streets, enter tained a large number of his friends and patrons. The guests were kindly received by Mr. Nugent. The saloon Is a neat and cleanly establishment, and reflects credit upon his taste In such matters. Hotel Arrivals.
