The Savannah Daily Herald. -- , , THURSDAY NOVEMBER 10, iso» (for The Savannah Dally Herald.) OH! FILL. ME A CUP. BT KLKA ADDITIVE. Oh fill me a cup (Tom Lethe's stream. » Ita every drop I’ll drain : For It will calm my wild despair, And ease my bosom’s pain. ’Twill blot from memory a name That echos ever there— A name I dare not thin! on now. Or weave Into a prayer. Then, oh 1 forgetfulness be mine— Be mine thro’ life’s dark dream ; Let me not think upon my grief, But give me pleasure's beam. Oh, sorrow : cease thy waves to roll Around m> heart of woe; Let peace her empire now resume. Though hope fled long ago. For I must ever careless smile, And act a gladsome part, Though sorrow mocks my mask of Joy. And canker eats my heart. Then fill me a cop from Lethe's stream. Its every drop I’ll drain, For it will calm my wild despair, And ease my bosom's pain. JOHN MITCHELL, K St*. This gentleman, who was recently dis charged from imprisonment at Fortress Mon roe by the President, is not among the least of the sufferers by the war. A Gioanic Rail Road Phojkct. —A rumor is current in 8. Louis, which if verified is Draught with important consequences and benefits to the commercial interest* of the South West. It is stated that a rail road corporation, of which Hon. D. S. Dickinson, of New York, is to be President, is in pro cess of formation, with the intention of buying out the South branch of the Pacific Rah Road, and extending it to the Northern border of Texas, where it will be met by ilie Texas Central Road, a part of wbicb is now under construction in a -Northerly direction from Galveston. The whole line, when laid, will be some hundred miles long, and will place St. Louis and Galveston in direct con nection. On a smooth rock by the waters edge was reclining a creature which, iu the struggling iight, be thought to be a seal. When he approached it splashed into the water, and as he saw its head bobbing up and down, and its long grey hair floating ou the wave, he altered his opinion, aud became convinced that it was an ancient mermaid.
