Supplrufrnt to (The Savannah Hails Jerald. The Savannah Daily Herald Fraianism in Ireland. GREAT ShIZURK OF ARMS IN BELFAST. Ou Wednesday last the Customs’ nutliori ties in Belfast ssized two tierces of pistols ou board the Fleetwood steamer Prince Alfred. One of the casks was consigned to a hard ware merchant in town ; but that jjentlemau, it is said, denies any knowledge of the con signment, and suites that he has received no invoice ot the goods. The tierces were re moved to the “Queen's Warehouse” by the Customs’ officers. Some of the pistols were revolvers aud they were all of a superior description. It is reported that before the departure ot the Prince Alfred from Fleet wood, the officers of customs at that port took possession of seven or eight cases ot rifles and one or two tierces of pistols, which were either on board the steamer, or about to be put on board. VoeCLiB SYMCUHY WITH THE CAUSE. The Castlebar prisoners charged with Feuianism baa been let out ou had, and the Ciinnaught Ranger stales that as soon as tne intelligence- was communicated that the prisoners were to be liberated from custody from three hundred to four hundred of the inhabitants of the town wended their way to the gate of the county prisou, where they awaited the appearance of the patriots.— Lou-- alter the latter had sought their own bourns the crowd tilled the streets, mauilesl ing the utmost sympathy with the liberated. WHAT THE POLICE FOUND IN ULSTER. ;From the Loudon Shipping Gazette.J There is a good story told to the effect that information having been received of arms being concealed in an Ulster parish, the local magistrate look unto himself a number ot mounted constables and set off in quest ot the contraband goods. They sought all day in farm aud byre and barton, und found nothing. Their search continued through the niuht, and at last their perseverance was re warded by seeing at two o’clock in the m ru ing a li-riit streaming through the cliiuk ofuu outhouse. Clearly there was something wrong here, and so the building was sur rounded, the door burst open with the bint end of a carbine, and the eager magistrate and police broke in upon a very much astonished farmer, who was attending a fa vorite sow in her confinement. The police could not stand so absurd a joke, and burst out iuto a fit of laughter as inextinguishable as that of the Homeric gods. The nmgistraie saw the thing iD a different light—saw him self a butt until his dying day—and so he gave the farmer a soveteigu to mend his door and hold his tongue. The Jamaica Insurrection. Late Central American papers contain ac counts of the progress of the Jamaica insur rection up to the 19th ult. The fury of the blacks seems to have reached its culmina ting point on the 11th, when a mob of some fouc or five huudred of them assembled at Morant Bay, and supplied themselves by force with arms and ammunition from the police station of the town. They at once at tacked the court house, whither the local authorities had betaken themselves for safe tv and had gathered a few of the citizens Au assault ensued, which was upsucceaslul until tbe assailants fired the building and the inmates were forced out by the flames. They were all seized by the rioters and slaughter ed aud their corpses outraged in eveiy way that the devilish ingenuity of the mob could devise Some were disemboweled; others beheaded; arras and legs were torn off; tongues und eyes plucked out. In some cases these thiugs were done before death. Fourteen whites are known to have been killed—among them some ot the most influ ential and esteemed residents of the town, and twenty-live, including one woman, se verely wounded. The local military trace was called out, and a number of the leaders of the mob had been caught and tried by court martial. Over oue hundred block* are said to have been executed. No fears were entertained of a lresh outbreak Tue following places had been burned by J The town of Mancliionel, Mulatto River, Elmwood, Rose Cottage, Fair Prrapecl, Bostqu, Castle Fairy Hill, and Deans Val ley. Anecdote of General UrwU und, Bishop General Polk. _ A correspondent of the Oimflnnati Com mercial tells the following pteusiblc story of a bit of sharp praciice V Llw °on General Grant aud the Rebel Revert nil Geueral Polk. While the General was in commaud of tbe post of Cairo, Bishop General Polk, General Pillow and General Frank Cheatham, of the Rebel army, were at Columbus, Kentucky. Flags of truce were occasionally sent back and forth between the tyjoji'aces, aud the opposing Generals W*re generally present.— After the conclusion' of business it was fre quently the case that wine Would be brought forth, and toasts drank at parting. On one occasion General Polk proposed a toast which he said all Could drink. Those present filled their glasses, and lio gave “To General George Washington.;’; As bo paused, pur posely, at the end of the name, the compa ny commenced to drink, .when he added, “Me first Rebel” General Grant had his glass nearly finished by that time, and it was iio use to stop, but exclaimed: “That was scarcely fair, General, but l will be even with- you some day.;" The laugh w as, of course, somewhat against him, but the com pany parted in good humor. Some two weeks alterward another flag of truce was sent down to Columbus, General Grant ac companying it. Alter business was over the Rebel General produced tbe wine, as usual, and General Grant adroitly turned the conversation iuto State Rights, on which subject Southerners always loved to dilate—their rights being the alleged object for which they claimed to be fighting. He allowed them to proceed at considerable length without attempting to refute auything, and they were perhaps flat tering themselves with the idea that they were converting bim from the error of his ways. At length he arose to go, and pro posed a toast at polling. Glasses were filled, and the Geueral rose and gave “E jual rights to all." He then made a pause, as General Polk had done, aud when all were busily drinking he added, “white and black." The horror of the chivalry at being inveigled into driuking such a heretical toast may easily be imagined, and they were rather disposed to feel angry until General Grant remarked, “Now, General Polk, I think I am even with you lor that Rebet toast you made me drink at our last conference.” Quick to see and appreciate a gotal joke, the angel ot tne Southerners was turned into a lamdi at the expense of their reverend giaceluliy achnowleded hiinsdt flhohadwi-Ma Project os an Annuity to is stated that a project is now ready ttfWHB put in execution, for the formation of a so ciety, with a capital oi thirty million, divid ed into six thousand shares of five hundred francs, by fervent Catholics, with the object of setting apart an annuity of six million for the Holy Father.
