The large and beautiful hall at the corner of Bull and Broughton streets, known as Masonic Hall, has been appropriated to the purposes of tbe enterprise, and the already existing advantages and conveniences ot the Hall made use of and added to in such a manner as to have successlully achieved the design of the proprietors to produae an establish ment far suipassing anything of the kind in this section, and second to none in the county, North or South. The floor of the hall is covered with a Brus sels carpet of heavy t« xture and splendid pa - tern, the portions around the tables being protected by a matting of India rubber. The effect oi the carpet is to give an air of splen dor and sumptuousness, which is very strik ing to one entering the hall. The piilaw which support the ceiling have been bronzed to harmonize with the new decoraiions of the ball. There are ten tables, two of them being carom, four four-pocket aud four six pocket tables. Tbe tables aie of tbe make of Phelan aud Collender, New York, and are entirely new, with the exceptiou of one of the carom tables, which was set up for use iu the late match between the distin guished players, Caruieand Kavanagb, which took place in New York about tbe first ot November. Tbe bar is in keeping in pro portions and fittings with the other features of tbe ball, tbe glass and silver ware and other paraphernalia being of elegant and costly make. Tbe ball is also furnished with an abundance of Comfortable easy-ebairs, and a reading table, supplied with all tbe American and foreign exchanges, will soon be added. A general appearance of brillian cy and magnificence prevails in tbe new hall, and it cannot fail to become a popular aDd fashionable resort for gentlemen. The proprietors announce the formal open ing of the Metropolitan Hall this evening. The Hall will be open this morning from 10 until 2, during which hours ladies are invited to visit it, no gentleman except accompanied by ladies being admitted at that time. Another Saw Mill to be Built.—We are pleased to notice that another large two-gang saw mill—one of the finest in Georgia—ls about to be built by Mr. Joseph Ehlen and J. F. and A. Hamilton, on the site of the Quantock Mill, wharves. The mill will be completed In about two or three months.— This mill will be famished with all improve ments, aud be able to turn out thirty thousand feet of square, or sixty thousand feet of rough-edge umber. The Willlnk Mill, which was built on the site of the Quantock Mill, is now being removed to Wil link’s ship yard, where It will be erected. Walcott's new mill, which is lu the course of erec tion between tbe Quantock Mill and Wllliok's ship yard. Is being rapidly pushed forward to completion, and Is expected to commence sawiDg iu about two weeks. The lower Eastern wharves will; before long, be built np entirely with saw mills, presenting a lively appearauce of industry iu approaching the city from down the river. When all the mills uow commenced are completed, there will be Wlllink’s Kill, Walcott’s two mills aud Bblen’s HUI, with room to erect several more. We learn that one or more mills are to be erectqd lu the western portion of the city, upon the river bank. We earnestly hope the fullest success will attend all these various enterprises. The Manufacture of Brices.—Among the many improvements In progress in our city there Is noue more worthy of notice than the enterprise or Messrs. Hamlet <f Swain, uow engaged In the manufacture of Georgia grey bricks. Messrs. Hamlet A Swain have now In successful operation their brick yard situated on the Savannah and Ggeecheh Canal about oue mile from the cliy, They give employment to a large force of hands, principally freedmen. Before the war the manufacture of bricks was important end extensive business, giving employment to many la laborera. We wish Messrs. Hamlet A Swalu every success, as an establishment of the kind is much wanted In tbe present scarcity ol building material in the city. The supplies hitherto have been rccelv celved either from the North or been taken out of the obstructions In the river below the city. Benefit of the Episcopal Orphans’ Home —We are requested to state that a Refreshment Party In aid of the Episcopal Orphans’ Home will be held at the Home, near the Catholic Church, corner of Mac donough and Floyd streets, on Wednesday, 6th De cember, commencing at tpur o’clock and continuing during that evening. Contributions are earnestly requested, either In money or artices, from all who .favor the Orphans’ Home. General Jail Delivery.—On Monday night last, between the hours of twelve and one o’clock, ten prisoners (all colored), confined In the jail of this county, succeeded In making their escape. They made use of false keys. Several of them are noted thieve and villains. Rewards for the apprehension of the Mur derers of Mr. a. Cordes.—At a meeting of the German Fire Company, No. 10, held last evening, a resolution was passed to hffer a handsome reward for the apprehension of the murderers of ther brother fireman, Mr. A. Cordes. We learn that tbe Mayor, by the authority of the City Council, will isaue his proclamation, also offering a reward of five liuudred dollars. The Theatre.—The attraction tonight Is Mr. and Mrs. Harry Watkins In their popular domestic drama, “ Smiles aud Tears." The programme will conclude with the laughable burletta of "Where's Your Farce f” Steamer Annie.—’This steamer is now lying in Quantock’s Canal, and the balance of cotton in the hold is being discharged as rapidly as possible. It is thought she will have to go north for repairs, unless the same can be made at the U. S. Government Re pair shops at St. Helena, S. C. — _ 'J! —S' "!■ I" Nliippiag Intelligence.
