Shepley, every Sunday morning, Theatbk As we anticipated, the benefit of Mr. Raymond last night was a bmpper—house full’ from gallery to pit—the audience delighted to ecstacv. So we fonnd them when we entered, Just at the close of the first piece, “The Pride of the Market” After a beautiful ballad from that fine vocalist, Mr. Gray, the fifth act of “Richard ill. was performed, Mr. Raymond, as the hump backed tyrant, to the Inexpressible delight of the au dlence. Tue burlesque was complete, a moBt ludi crous feature of which was the performance of the idonkey engaged for the occasion, which resembled anything else ou four legs except Richard's “White Surrey,' 1 which, according to Shakspeare, he ordered to be saddled for the field on that bloody day. True to its Instincts, the brute “ wouldn’t go,’’ and two or three times pitched his royal rider over his his head, amid the shouts and screams of the audience. The fight of Bosworth field was brought to a close by fierce conflict between the rebel Richmond and the tyrant Richard, in which, as usual, the latter came out sec ond best, dying game, or rather refusing to die at all;,for while Richmond was delivering the well- known eulogium over his prostrate body, and as the curtain was descending, Raymoud spraug up, de claring that he never felt better m his life, a fact which is no doubt attributable In some measure at least to the liberal support he had received on Ills beuefit night. Mr. Prendergast found the bed of Capt, Huffman vacant, and also the door on River street opeu, which he had himself securely fastened early in the evening. The body or Capt. noffman lay during the night in the position in which It was first found. Yesterday morning, at the request of Mayor Anderson, Henry II. Eden, Esq . Coroner elect of Chatham county, thoroughly investigated the cause of death. Dr. Martin, who was summoned, made d post mortem examination, and found that the cervical vertebra; of the deceased was dislocated; also that he had sustained injuries of the crania, and a fracture of the left clavicle—either of which was sufficient to pro duce Immediate death. The remains of capt. Hoffman were interred In Laurel Grove Cemetery. He was about fifty-two years old, and leaves a wire, daughter and sou re siding in .Jersey City. The personal effects of Cspt. noffman will be for warded bv Coroner Eden to the family. Benefit of Mr. anil Mrs. W. H. Crisp. Superior Court. BEFORE JUDGE FLEMING. Wednesday, Jan. 17. 1SG3. The case ol State vs. Wm. Hutchins, charged with larceny, was called for trial. Upon arraignment the prisoner plead guilty. The semence will be deferred until the last day of the session. The Peilt Jury were then dismissed until 3« P.M. wheu the case of state vs. Louisa Frank, perjury, was taken up. Counsel for defendant, Solomon Cohen and D. A. "Bone. A jury for the ease was sworn, aud the •: i rs not sworn discharged for the term. Solicitor bcncrul Heidt read the indictment, which was to the '■■fleet that Mis. Louisa Frank had, on the 12th of Oc- foiier, 1SC5, taken oath falsely before Charles J. " lute. Notary Public, that the lease of the premises occupied by her, on the corner of Whitaker and Con gress streets, had not expired. Tiie defendant plead not guilty. The proof necessary was that the oath had been alien before an officer of law. The date of Mr. White’s commission as notary public was shown by i 'maty record to have expired, and consequently the oath was not taken before a proper officer. Tills being the case a nol. prog, was en'ered, and the jury discharged for the term, with the thanks of the Court. The Criminal Docket was closed lo-day. The remaining portion of the term will be devoted to the Appeal Docket. The Cumbria Is the pioneer vessel of the new south ern line about beiug established from Plnadelphla to Charleston, Savannah and New Orlearns by the mer chants and business men of the former city, and for which there has already been subscribed about a half million dollars. Admitted to the Bar.—At the opening of the Superior Court yesterday morning Mr. Robert Falll- gant of this city was examined for admission to the Bar.
