The S&raimah Tragedy in Wit worth County, SI!i -—Racine, Wis., Jan. 10.—A terrible tragedy occurred last Friday evening in Wal worth county. A farmer living between Lyons and Geneva had sold his farm for $>3,000, and on the morning of the murder had started West to purchase another farm. About eight o’clock in the evening three men, dressed in soldiers' clothes, entered the house and murdered the man's wife aud child, and then proceeded to ransack the house. A neighbor, living across the road, hearing the noise, rushed over there, taking with him a revolver. Upon entering the house, the first eight that met his gaze was the dead bodies of the murdered mother and child weltering in blood. The murderers in the meantime were up stairs and had started to come down, wheu the neighbor faced them and fired upon them, killing one instantly, and mortally wounding the other two. The names of the parties are not ascertained. YORK, WILLIAMS, g e kj;4 a l - . , & CO., AUCTION AND tffffllSSION MERCHANTS 152 SAY STREET, SAVANNAH, GA. OFFICIAL. WASTKO. NOTICE. Foil SALK * TO HKNT. Enterprise.—The great requisites for sue «’ess in America are pluck and enterprise; and Helraboid, the well-known druggist, has in his business career evinced both of these qualities. The consequence is that he has achieved a success. He lias one of the finest establishments in New York City, while the reputation of the well-known Helrabold's Pieparatious is co-extensive with civiliza tion. These preparations, it is almost needless to say, are not “quack medicines,” nor “patent medicinesthey are simpiy legiti mate, scientifically-compounded prepara tions, which for their appropriate complaints are without a rival. They have been before the public for many years, and are at the present moment more in demand than ever. This shows conclusively their genuine merit. At Helmbold’s new store, next the Metro politan Hotel, in addition to these prepara tio.ns—the Extracts of Buchu and Sarsapa rilla—are sold all varieties of drugs and chemicals. The establishment is perhaps the finest in the city of New York, and the public are respectfully invited to call and judge for themselves. Gen. Kiriiy Smith.—The New Orleans Crescent announces it as a fact that General Kirby Smith has returned to this country and is now in Virginia. Immediately on ar riving in Havana he wrote to Gen. Grant, asking whether he (Gen. Smith; would lie considered as included in the capitulation and placed ou parole. Gen. Grant replied in the most friendly manner, informing Gen. Smith that he wouldjbe paroled aud placed on tiie same footing as other Confederate of ficers should he return to the country. This letter, in some way, found its way to the dead letter office, whence, after the lapso of several months, it was forwarded to him (Smith). That gentleman immediately on receiving it left Cuba for Virginia. He is now, we believe, in Lynchburg, where his wife ami family reside. HOLIDAY GOODS. Direct Imoortation from Londo and Paris.
