Wiiereas, frequent complaint has been made of
late by citizens, of the noisy and disorderly behavior
at public balls anil shoutings in the city, to the an
noyance of the neighborhood, and the disturbance
of the public peace ;
Be it ordained by tilt? Mayor and Aldermen of the
city or Savannah In Council assembled, That tt shall
not lie lawful fur any person or persons to give, with
in the limits of the city, any public halls of whatso
ever deseri ption or oilier gathering where boisterous
shoutings is indulged iu, under the penalty of filly
dollars line for eue.li and every contravention, unless
permission in willing be previously ohtuittcd from
the Mayor. Such penalty to lie indicted upon the
person er persons giving such hall or shouting, or
guilty oi boisterous conduct at the same.
Wiierevcrthe foregoing shall he violated, it shall
l»o tlie duty ol the Mayor 10 cause said ball or balls,
or oilier guciieriug as oefore mentioned tube closed
immediately by the Police.
Every person giving a public ball or gathering as
aforenamed, who shall prolong the duration of the
same beyond the hour fixed by the Mayor’s permit,
shall be subject to a flue of twenty-five dollars for
each and every.offence.

number of men to be policemen, and to form under
that denomination a guard for theatres, public ex
hibitions, halls aud shoutings, in order there to re
ceive and execute the orders aud directions or tite
Mayor and officers of tite Police, as to what concerns

mises, Provided that their number shall not exceed
five men for each of such theatres, exhibitions, balls

beds of good asparagus," plenty of globe artichoke
plants, wild cherry trees Ac The situation is healthy.
It is admirably suited throughout the year for a hotel
or boarding house, or cottages for persons doing busi
ness in Savanuah, or seeking pure air, healtn and
pleasure. The Atlantic A Gulf Railroad puts down
und takes up passengers on the place, within three
hundred yards of the honse.
Also, another tract of TOO acres, or more, of high
land and rice swamp, with plenty of wuod, within a
mile of the former tract.
Also, a Rice Plantation of 360 acres, on Arpylc Isl
and, ou Savannah river, ten mileB from tite city, 32o 12
