In the proceedings of the House of Repre sentatives on the 14th Inst., as reported by our Milledgeville correspondent, we have j * pmur r preparations noticed the introduction by Mr. Ezzard of a resolution deprecating as a dangerous ex periment the encouragement, by legislation or otherwise, of foreign emigration into the State. The fallacies upon which this very singular, if not silly proposition is based are, first: that the appearance of foitign emi grants in our midst as a fixed element ot the population would endanger the peace and prosperity of the countiy ; and second, that the mover feels assured that no foreign ele ment is needed in aid of our system of gov ernment, or in addition to the class of labor ing population already amongst us. The phraseology of the resolution, though not as perspicuous as might be, shows that the first and most plausible objection was suggested by the unrestricted prejudice existing in the mind of Mr. Ezzard against foreigners on ac count of their having taken up arms on the side of the North in the late conflict. This feehng of antipathy to the class of foreigners which joined the federal armies and aided, 1 This T* the most delightful and extraordinary article as the resolution correctly states, more than ever discovered. The greatest anomaly, however, enuncia ted in the resolution, ie the remarkable dis covery that no foreign eleifibnt is needed in addition to the class of laboring population already amongst us. He regards the pres ence of an industrious and thrifty people from abroad, as a menace to our peace, an element of constant dissension, a dark cloud upon our future, which should be removed by positive exclusion and expulsion, if neces sary. We dissent entirely from these absurd and suicidal views, and hope the House will table the resolution indefinitely.
