Thscpolioeiaau trstiflsd that he had been sent for to arrest the accused and did so, but he did not see him commit any disorder. Tbs proprietreaa of the house testified that the defendant and another person came into her house and ke flour ished a small knife and threatened to “clear out the Yankees" if-there were any in the house. She asked him to .keep quiet, but he refusing to do so she was compelled to send to the barracks for a policeman. She said he did not do any damage, but t ireatened to Upon being asked by the Mayor what he had to say, he responded “nothing." Mayor Andsraon then flaed him ten dollars. Jno. Edwards, who was before the Mayor on Satur day morning, was yesterday charged with vagraAcy The policeman testified that he found him asleep On a step and started him away, and that in a very short time afterwards he found him near the place. He asked him what he was doing there, when the vagrant contended that he had a right to sleep in the stioet if he wished to. The policeman dlsputedthls and took him off to the barracks. Upon b<H„g wejf . tioued. Edwards stated that he had been working on the Gulf Railroad and waa discharged, and having no pluce to stay, thought he might stop in ths street. The Mayor fined him five dollars A policeman was charged with refusing to obey the Lieutenant of the Police and absenting from duty. He stated that he had been afflicted with a nerv ous affection and waa unlit for duty and wanted to re sign. The Lieutenant told him he must give thirty days notice of his resignation, and he said hewonld forfeit his month’s pey but would not go onstreet duty. Counsel appeared for him end the Mayor re marked it was rather an unusual proceeding fir a po liceman to appear by counsel, but he would bear what the gentleman had to say: who then contetded that hii client certainly had a right to resign.andnahe was not able to attend to police Jutyhisretasal to do so should not subject him to am other peialty than the forfeiture of Ilia month's toy. The Mayor re- marked that the policeman was b^md to atend to his duties until his resignation was accepted bythe Mayor He then sentenced the defendant to pay a fine of twenty dollars and be dismissed fron ths race. A negro naan named Cassius waa oprial charged with having in his possession a mujgelouging to another negro man. From the testimonj t apjteared that CaasiU9 got the mule from a negro lued Paine a noted mule thief, who was sentenced ate time ago to six months’ service on the streets silanes, but who had made his escape. Cassius bod | the mule and paid part of the money on it, the maicpresent- ing he was anxious to sell soon and go Augusta. Roberts, the owner of the mule, heard of through unothcr negro, who told him for twenty .Bars he would show him where it was- He engal to pay him and went and got the mule, but Carait refused ,t> give it up. The negro giving the infornion was charged with complicity with Cassias, who wtbarged with receiving the mule, knowing it to h* been stolen.
