This court was also crowded yesterdy morning both with colored lookers-on aud offenders. They must also have been enjoying the festive anniversary. I n these times of epidemics, a great deal of dam age might result from the congregation of so many persona In such s close place as this court room. Our reporters attention was called to a negro boy among the spectators in the court who actually had the small pox on hiB face, and who looked as though he should have been sent immediately to 6olne hospital, had to be driven away from the place. The first case called was that of u negro man charged with making indecent proposals to a whjte woman named Love, who resides somewhere in Robertsville From the evidence it appears that the boy had gone into the house to have tho womau write a letter for him which she did, and when it was finished he asked what she charged. She replied "nothing would treat the party." He then went out and pro cured some whiskey and she aud another woman drank it, and got very drunk, and after some loose conduct on her part, he mado a proposal to her. Th® evidence was unfit for publication. After hearing it, Judge Stone remarked that he was at firBt disposed to fine the negro very heavily and make an example of him, but from what he had heard he came to tho con clusion that a white womau who would allow a negro to procure liquor and then get druuk was no better than she should be. He would therefore dismiss the case upon the defeudannt’s paying the Sbstsf. A negro named Wm. Boyce charged with carry ing concealed weapons, aud pleading guilty to the charge was fined ten dollars and costs, the pistol to be retained by the court. Roduey Warner was charged with stealing a ham from the store of Mr. Von Glohn. A boy in the store testified that the negro' came in and wanted some whiskey which he gave him, and while be was busy attending to the wants of some other customers, he picked up a ham and carried it to his wagon where he concealed it among some hay or straw. Another boy testified to the Batne thing and to the finding of the ham. The defendant offered a small boy as witness for the defence, but he not knowing the nature of an oath, the judge merely took-his statement, which was to the effect that he was sitting on the wagon when Warner took the ham out of the store and placed it iu the wagon. He told a very straight forward story, but it was rather strange evidence for the defence to offer. Warner however pretended he did not steal the ham and said some one must have put it there. He was ordered to pay a fine of fifty dollars and costs, or in default to serve twenty-five days at hard labor on the chain-gang. A negro named Samuel Rice was arraigned on the charge of firing a pistol, but it appearing that he was stranger in the city and unacquainted with our laws and aa he showed a good previous character, he was dismissed on the payment of costs. A negro named Gibbons was charged with carrying coucealed weapons, but as the prosecution failed to make out the case, he was also dismissed on the pay ment of costs. Albert King, B. Simmons, Paul Milledge, Henry Garrett and Elbert Johnson were charged with creat ing a disturbance at a house in Cooper-shop lane, on Saturday night. One of the police officers stated that, hearing a row, he proceeded to the scene, when he fouud two of these men engaged in throwing bricks at the house, and seized them, when they resisted, and he sprung his rattle for help." Another policeman testified to the same facts, and that one of the men tried to throw him, and succeeded in jamming him against s wall, breaking his watch; that he then gave him a taste of hit shelalali; and from the appearance of the prisoner's frontispiece every one present was convinced of the effectiveness of the blow. Another officer testified to the same effect, and a colored man named Pollard, testified to the row aud to hearing ot c of the prisoners cursing and abusing the officers. One of them in passing his gate was arrested by him and taken with the others to the barracks. Two of the party, Milledge and Garrett, were not identified as being such active participants in the row as the bal ance of them, and in passing sentence Judge Stone was somewhat lenient with them. King was fined twenty-five dollars and costs; Johnson, twenty-five dollars and costs, or to be confined at hard labor lor fifteen days; Simmons was fined fifteen dollars and costa; Milledge and Garrett five dollars aud costs. Chloe C'uthbert and George Cuthbert was charged with violating the city ordinance by giving a public ball without a license from the -Mayor, as prescribed It was at this house the riot was on Saturday night. Chloe, an old negro woman, said that her son played the violin, and when he came -home at night ho gen erally amused the folks by playing while they danced, and that there was no ball that night. She Baid that the mon just sentenced were trying to enter her house, but she would not allow them. Judge Stone then re marked that as they were merely having a family dance they were not violating the ordinance, and ac cordingly dismissed the case. Cupid King and Jerry Breal were arraigned on the charge of stealing two horses from a white man. The evidence was pretty clear against them. One of the witnesses said the prisoner had told him in the morn ing that they had taken the horses and he was sorry for it. The same prisoner told the Judge that he knew whose horses they were, but they had bought them from some one working on the farms. The case was continued until this morning. Jackson Tarver charged a whit* man with not pay ing him the amount orttis hire. Yrotn the evidence it appeared that the man was hired, but he had not proven himself a full hand. The Judge ordered defendant to pay the plaintiff half’ wages, as that was all he was shown to be worth in tho judgment of the court. So defendant had to pay the sum of three dollars and fifty cents, besides costs of court. A negro man named Tony Ring was charged with having In his possession a horse belonging to a white man, but the evidence adduced at the hepring want to prove lhat defehaant came honestly by the horse, al though it was shown tobe the property of the plain tiff. The court adjudged that the horse be returned to the plain tiff, he paying the costs of court. A white man was charged witli refusing to pay a ne gro named Wm. Oftingston the amount' due for pilot age of hie vessel. From the evideneo it appeared tha^ the captain had engaged the negro to pilot him through Romney marsh, and be had dono so faithfully. The court ordered that defendant pay the amount, five dollars, and costs. Auction 'Sales. •V auction. r By Laurant, Wayne & Sweat. Dear Sir: I have been a sufferer, for upwards of twenty years, with gravel, bladder, and kidney adec- £#n%ido*iag. Which time I have used various medi- jiuaipreperetiona, and been under the treatment of ,tlie mist.eminent physicians, experiencing but little relief. Haring seen your preparations extensively adver tised. I consulted with my family physician in regard to using your Extract Buohu. Idid this because I had used oU kinds of advertised remedies and had found them worthless, and some quite injurious; in fact, 1 despaired of ever gettiry? well, and determined to use no remedies hereafter unless I knew of the ingredients. It wus this that prompted mo to use your remedy. As you advertised that it was composed of bucku, cubebs, nod juniper berrisi, it occurred to me and my physician as au excellent combination, and, with his advice, after au examination of the article, ondconsulting again with the druggist, I concluded to try it. I commenced its use about eight months ago, at which time I was con- fiupd to my room. From the flrst bottle I was as tonished and gratified at th* beneficial effect, and after using it three weeks was able to walk ont. Ifeltmuch like writing you a full statement of my case at that time, bat thought my improvement might only be temporary, and therefore concluded to deferand see if it would effect a perfect cure, knowing then itwould be of greater value to you and more satistactory to me. 1 AH NOW ABLE TO BKPOUX THAT A CURE IS EPFECTED AFTER tJSIlfO THE REMEDY TOR RIVE MONTHS. 1 have NOT USED ANY NOW FOB THREE MOOT FEEL AS WELL tN ALL “RESPECTS AS I EVER DID.
