Financial and Commercial. SAVANNAH MARKET. Remarks. The market remains exceedingly dull, with no chance at present for a better feeling. Buyers seem disposed for trade, but are unable owing to the flat ness of the cotton market, which renders if utterly impossible to negotiate. Another cause is the un certainty of shipment on the Atlantic and Gulf road. Goods that have been shipped some three or four days ago, we understand, are yet stored at the depot, from inability of the company to deliver them, aud mer chants will not ship. The reluctance of cotton holders to part with thoir stocks at the reduced prices has made a tighter money market; and this added to the continued fall in gold in New York has put sterling again lower. Good bills lading bills selling at 31 premium. Sight checks on New York are bought by the banka at % per. cent, discount. The out door sales are on more favor able terms, but the demaud is lighter. Cotton—The market is flat, and transactions are almost impossible. The money market still falling in Now York, necesaarily brings cotton down with it, and forwarders are indisjKwed to advance. Within the last week prices have declined three cents ou all grades, and wo quote: Ordinary Nominal. Low Middling 30 Middling e. 31 @ Strict Middling 35 fa Good Middling ”33 ^ Sea Island.—-The better grades of this description only are in demand, with but few transactions to note. New Yon. March 17.—The trade la drygoods con tinues extremely dull. There Is no confidence in prices among buyers, and quotations of domestic cot ton goods have still further declined, standard sheet ing being now held at 24 cents, while prints are lal H cent lower than a week ago. The trade hr foreign dry goods is still done almost exclusively through the auction room, and few goods can be sold better than at a lose. There have been some failures among m.n Arms durhmthe week.
