Faisons’ Pectoral 11 ittm of Car-
I'nffceu, or Irish Moist
A SAFE and certain remedy for coughs, colds,
asthmas, the whooping cough, shortness of
breath, spitting of blood, consumption, &c.
It iB notorious tiiat coughs and colds aro the
forerunners of most, if notail, of those deplorable
disorders; tlie inconsiderate who neglect to re
move them, even in their first aild second stages,
do but too frequently realize the fuct. YVhen,
therefore, wo reflect upon tho innumerable ob
jects who are luboring under all thu calumitoiu
effects of consumption, contracted by iiinttcution,
our feelings subside into those of sympathy, and
wo lameuttlwtso vnstaportiou ofmunkind should
prematurely fall a sacrifice to those complaints, and
linger months, nay, years, in torment and rogret
But how ofteu might the pernicious effects of
these cmnnlainls be obviated/ How often mipht
an untimely grave be prevented? He who wish
es to enjoy the blessings of health, with o firm and
vigorous constitution,should consider that,coughs
and colds, even in their first stages, not only affect
tho lungs, and debilitate tlie system, but absolutely
destroy them. Persous afflicted witli coughs or
colds, generally presume they will subside sm
taneously, but how vain is this presumpliou, hi
different oftentimes U the case; indeed, such per
sons do, in tho lunguagu of the leurned and admi
rable Armstrong, forget they nre
— — - ■ • •—— “Oft the source
Of fatal woes, a cough that foams with blood,
Asthmas, and inflammation of the lungs.
Or the slow mincings of the hectic fire.”
The true cause of these complaints, namely,
coughs and colds,is a suppression of perspiratiou.
The cold, the damp, thu foggy weather, or.the
frequent chauges which take place iu the atmos
phere, occasion the body to become affected. In
consequence of that, the pores and outlets of the
skin, which in time of health are always breathing
out a fine fluid, become so shut up, that the per
spirable matter, insteudof circulating freely thro*
mo system, recoils upon the blood, fills tlie ves
sels superabundantly, and vitiates its Quality'.—
Hence, oftentimes,' the cougii or cold, though
slight, settles upon the lungs, then terminates m
habitual cough, confirmed asthmas, inflammation
of the lungs, or that calamitous disorder, aeon
sumption. The Pectoral Balsam of Carrageen,
for coughs, colds, asthmas;whooping cough,short
ness of breath and consumption, ig allowed to be
one of the most safe and effectual remedies, and
tlio greatest discovery ever made in tlie annals of
medicine. It is a notorious fact, that in Irelaud,
where this Mariuc Plunt is indigenous and the in
habitants use it freely, consumptions rarely occur;
it is held by them in the highest estimation for its
excellent and salubrious virtues. Volumes would
not be sufficient to contum the mass of individuals
in Britain, who have it, and experienced its heal
ing, balsamic, and salubrious virtues. It is used
by persons ofthe highest distinction, and recom
mended by gentlemen of tlie first medical talent)
ns peculiarly effectual iu all those pulmonary com
plaints. It promotes gentle perspiration,removes
viscid phlegm, by an easy nnd sale expectoration,
is highly salutary to the lungs and seldom fails
entirely to remove that uneasy sensation, or tick
ling in the throat, which excites frequent congh-
iug. Nothing can he belter adapted to prevent
the ill effects of damp air and foggy weather, nor
cun any thing bo more excellent to take, when
wet, damp, or wet in the feet, cold or shivering ill
the body .after a shower of rain or fall of snow,&c.

constitutes the wealth of tlie grout mass of
toe people in this, as in most other countries. To
preserve, therefore, that health by natural means
is a grand murulutid political scheme, to fulfil which
requires our utmost attention. The unprece
dented popularity oudimivemlapprohationwhich
this medicine has achieved throughout the United
Stales, tlie Canadas, Texas, Mexicoand the YVest
Indies, fully justify Dr. Peters iu warmly and con
scientiously recommending them to the special at
tention of tlie nfilicted.
Dr. Peters has spent much time in experiment
ing with different Y v egetuble Medicines For diseas
es of the liver, und now offers his Vegetable Pills
as tlie best, most convenient and cheapest Medt-
cino that can be prepared for geueral use.
One great quality of his Vegetable Pills h that
they have tlie alternative principle combined with
their carlhartic, or operative qualities, or that they
not only demise the stomach and bowels by pur
ging, hut they regulate tlie liver, change the mor
bid secretion, strengthen tho digestive ©rgnnsppu
rify the blood, invigorate the circulation, and gives
tone and energy to the nervous system.
They are mild and pleasant in their operation
and convey almost immediate conviction of their
utility from their first dose. They can be taken
witli safety by persous of any age; and tlie feeble,
tlie infirm, tlie nerv ous and delicate ure strength
ened by their operation, because they clear the
system of bad humors, quiet nervous irritability,
and invariably produce sound health. ,
The Vegetable Pills nre a sure remedy for jaun
dice, sick and nervous headache, dyspensy, cos
tiveness, sicluiess of the stomach, heartburn,
