vTr-or as a faithful criterion of the relative ength of parties.^ f Ihe following reprefentatlvcs in ccngreff are elected : Republicans.*— Jofeph Clay, Michael Leih, Jacob Richard, R. Brown, J. Van Horn, F. Conrad, Joseph Heider, J, Anderson, J W’hitehah, John Smilie, John Stewart, John A. Hanna, David Bard—l3. It is not afeertained, nor is there a profpefr fl at a finale federal:ft will be lent to conn rtf. It is afeertained that Mr. Sitgreaves has faileu jiotwithdanding the* republicans ran two can didates a gain ft him. Ivlr. Findley and Mr. Painter, both repub licans, 2rc candidates for the fame feat. The votes received render it doubtful which will be elected. From appearances, it is not probable that the house of representatives of Pennsyl vania ■will contain more than fix federalifts. How are the mighty fallen ! NEW JERSEY ELECTION. Thr'election was held on the second 1 uef d?.y of this month, for members of the Legis lative Council and General Affrmbiy. E ich county eleifls one member of the council, and from one to four members of the afie nbiv.— The following is the refuit of the election Council . Aft rally* Repub. Fed. Rep ill. Fed . Council, 3 After: hlv T SAVA N N A H, WEDNE S D A 2\ N OVf.MBER 10. For the Georgia Republican. r A S one of the gentlemen chosen to J_ r;prefent this state in the eigtb Congels of the United iStates, has been elected Governor of the Rate, there Vv ill be 3 neceility of electing another citizen to supply his place. Ttiree of the {even who were candidates at the lab election, may probably feel themselves bound to offer again. But from the present choice having fallen on gentle men who are reddent in the middle and western parts of the Rate ; and the re signation of Mr. Milledge Rill leaving them in poffeftion of three fourths of the representation .* it is hoped the juftia cf local claims may be recognized, and that Mr. W iilis will decline the com petition. Preiuming from the well known cha rafter of Mr. Willis, that this will be the principle he will aft: upon ; the competition is confiti'ered as reftine be • o tween Mr. M‘A)lißer, and Mr. Bryan. 1 he claims of either of the jc citizens on the public, are not small. Mr. Bryan is a man of good information and talents; of undoubted integrity and firm repub licanism. Mr. XTAllifter has certainh not le/j information, or talents ; equal integrity ; more experience ; is like wise a republican ; and not less firm in bis f elutes. Ihe preference is therefore given to the. latter. I anticipate the remark, that Mr. Bryan had the higheß number of votes at the late election. To this, however it may be replied, that in the eastern diftrift, where both tne gentlemen are reddents, Mr. M‘Alhfter has a higher r tr rote than any cf the candidates ; that the preference to Mr. Bryan in the up per counties, was owing to an arrange iii 0n t in3GO re\ ioub to thknowledge that Mr. M‘AHifter would be a candi date, and to reports injurious to the political opinions of Mr. M'Allifter. The influence which these reports arc acknowledged to have had on the faf* frsgcs of our fellow-citizens, is a pledge of their zeal in the republican cause, and of a becoming jealousy that their rights are not betrayed : it is a pledge too, that when fatisfied they were er roneous, they will cheerfully come for ward to do jußice to the candidate. These remarks Row not from the per jf resentment or disappointed ambition /he writer acknowledges that he is tin friend of Mt. M‘Allißer, but he folemh declares he lias no other intcreß in his election than w hat lie feels in a defirt to promote the public welfare. No pergonal considerations ever did or ever vill enter into the motives of iiis politi cal conduce. The subject is taken up thus early, that time may be given to Rate or to anAvcr any obieftions apainft either of the candidates; it is taken up in favor of Mr. M‘ A Hitter, because the writer has a lull conviction that his elec tion will beR promote the cause of re publicanifm and the public good ; and because he believes the vote of his vi cinity is entitled to notice. A Democrat. Savannah, Nov. 9, 1802. CARD. When I I lave time to attend to mat-1 ters of no consequence, 1 may fpencl a moment on the depofiLories of learned] curiosities , alias museums. No men! ever laboured harder to be taken into notice : none,! presume, were less grati fied in their fucccfs. For the present, I would only re nark, they will find it difficult to prove that any letter of mine to the editor of the Aurora, was ever published with my fignatiire, or that 1 mentioned the neighbourhood of Danbury as the reft deuce of a Robbins, without fpecifying it to be in New-York state. They talk of anew and comical fi gure —anger in an arm chair, feigning compojitre : but the composure of Gra vity himfeif would be broken by a pe ril lal of their publication ; none could withstand it, who was not formed with out rilible mufeies. Depofttory of learned curioiities, is the figiiification of tire word mnjetim : the title is apposite, for though these peo ple are not very learned, they certainly ire very great curioftties, and present m inexhaustible fund of amusement.
