An ORDINANCE.
For the better preventing the miscaiefs arffing
from Hogs and Goats being foffered to go at large
in toe city cf savandh, and to repeal tbe for
mer Ordinance relative thereto
Firit.t If HEREAS tlie ordinance hereto-
VV f° rc made and passed to prevent
Togs and Goars going at large in the citv of
Savannah, hath been found inadequate to the
objects contemplated thereby, Be it therefore
ordained ly the MI ay or and Aldermen of the city
of Savannah in Council afjembled, and it is here
by ordained by the authority of tbe fame, That
from and after the pacing of this ordinance, it
shall nor. be lawful for any person or perf
whatsoever, to permit or fuffer any hog or hogs
to go at large in the city of savannah, or in
any (Feet, lane, a l ly or fquurc of the fame,
unless such hog or hogs be well and fufficient
ly ringed in and through tlie nose so as to pre
vent their rooting. And be it ordained, Thai
from and after the palling of this ordinance,
it lh,dl not be I .wful to permit or luffer any
goat or goats to go at large in the ftid city :
and that all hogs and goats (except such hogs
as shall be ringed as aforefaid) which shall be
found ltraying or going at large in any tfreet,
lane, ally, or square of the said citv, shill be
deemed public *u;fa ices,.&may be killed,taken
driven or carried away by any person or per
sons whatsoever, nor sh ill any person or per
loas be fubje<!d or liable to any action, fair, or
pro fee ut ion foi any thing done by virtue of,
and in execution of this ordinance.
Second. And be it further ordained, Th u
if any person or persons wh ufbrver shall re
fifl or oppose a.iy officer or pjerfoi in the
execution of this ordinance, such person or
persons ibali, fur every such offen. e, forfeit
and pay a furn not exceeding twenty dollars,
one half to the person complaining, and one
half to the use of the city.
Third. And be it further ordained , That the
ordinance entitled “An ordinance for pie
venting hogs and goats going a large in the
city of Savannah,” be, and the fame is hereby
repealed.
