J their euflomers, would be fuflicierit motives to insure as
I?. inarc of advertiiing buhneis. In this we have
j been ditappointed ; few very few of them ever offering
! any countenance whatever to our eftabi Aliment ; whilit
every publication of their paper, as well as its lift of
, Subscribers, evinces the charaderistic of Republicans to
I be liberality, toward their opponents We cannot omit
j this opportunity of returning our acknowledgements to
j thofeylrw who have given us a portion of their custom,
| though differing with us in sentiment.
; These circumflances have evidently rend ere 1 our ad
j vertiiing far less valuable than tiujt of the adverse paper,
j in this place, though 111 a city, a large majority of whole
1 inhabitants agree with us, an ; ip a county and Hate
| where the oppofmg party are otj no political weight ;
j and it is well known that advcrtißments funiifli tbe prin
j cipal support of a paper.
| That the Republican has not at all times exhibited
the appearance and contained the quantity of informa
j tion we could with, is freely acknowledged. Added to
the above coniideartions, an unexpected disappointment
jof a peculiar nature, which we experienced the firit
quarter year, had nearly compelled us to reiinquilh our
publication ; but thcfe difficulties being in fame meature
surmounted, vve trust later publications have evinced a
degree of improvement, and we a Eire you that with
continued encouragement, a full greater lhail made.
Our lift of fnbfcribers, though increasing, \s more
limited than we could expeft. and from these fairis it
mull be evident that unleis fome a ditional eftorts are
made to support a Republican paper in Savannah, such
an institution cannot rife to be an objerit for its pro
prietors ; —the enemies of republican sentiments will
enjoy the triu rp! of feeing it link into penury instead
of 3(Turning th ita 1 ion which a prompt and liberal
support would The consequences of having the
principal public print . the (late, exclulivcly pofleffed by
your political n: -is, are too recent in your expe
rience to be forgotten.
That no exertions on our part may be wanting, to
accommodate dfilant fubferibers and obtain a support
lor a republican profs, we have determined to ift’ue a
weekly paper containing all the information of the
feh-weeklypaper, excluiive of advertilements. To those
not interested in the advertifernents of this city, and
where tin. * and arrives but once a week, such a paper
will answer all the purposes of the city paper ; it will
be afforded cheaper and lave one hall the expence of
postage. Thole or our country patrons who are in
dined to receive the weekly instead of the semi weekly
paper, will gi e u notice, poll paid, and their orders
will be at ten ed to.
Republicans ! fliall it be said that while you are three
times as numerous as your oppdfers, you will not support 1
a paper on equr.l grounds ? Shall it be said that your
zeal for your principles is but a found 3 that while your
political enemies not only subscribe for, their papers in
different parts of the union, but give hundreds for t heir
use, you will not even afford the patronage of fubferip
tion to a paper ot your lent!merits t Shall it be laid that
Georgia, with fifteen thouland republican freemen can
not maintain a republican paper to take rank with
the other papers of trie United States ?
Citizens ! vve have endeavored to deserve yotr favor; j
wc feel at lea it a proud cemfcioufnefs that our priori- >
pies have never been fac-rdiced, and that they never wiii |
be. We now appeal to your patronage, and as it is |
impossible for any other newipaper :n tiie tlate to fur- j
nifh a greater quantity or information on the fame terms, j
we feel an akurauce that your patronage will be exteniive.
