WHEREAS the legislature did on the
26th November, 1802, pals an aft making
it the duty of the uffices of the Inferior
courr of Chatham county to levy a tax
not exceeding ouc fourth part of the gen
era 3 tax to be'collefted in the fame man
ner that the county taxes are collefted,
to the use of opening and keeping in re
pairthe public roads, and at the fame
time repealing aB road laws heretofore
made fa fat as refpefts ihe county afore
faid—To the end thereof that the laid
law may have due operation, it is hereby
ordained, directed and required that a
tax equal to one fourth of the general
tax for the year iBo,. he levied and col

poses lierein recited and no other use or
purpose whatever.—And moreover it is
hereby notified, that Monday the 18th
day of 7 l, iy next, at the court-hoOfe in
the city of Savaannafr between the hours
of 10 and 2 o’clock, the public roads I
within the county aforefaid will be f:t
up at public outcry to the JowefLbidder

good and fufheient security be given by
each contraftor for the due execution oi„
the duties required by the laid law—And

been appointed, to direct the part or
parts on each road, where labor thall fuft
