It ia eviaeui that the climfit.es, food and

their wool is not folong and fi 4 is in Spain,
I*'ranee and England. This difference is ar
tificial, an i by no means natural : as I will
endeavor to prove, by the wisdom, expen-,
ence, and the care of the (hoph.rds in Eu
rope.
1. The shepherds of France and Eng
land, take lpecial care to >g,ve tlieir fneep
plenty of 100 , both in winter and summer,
that they may never be ItrucL with pov
erty.
2. They prevent their sheep taking colds,
(which Hop tiic mucous matter Havering

a mortal difeale) by a flicker that keeps of
the ‘liovv and rain during the leVu ity of the
winder, and leaving the Tides a k.l lhelter
open to the winds, ncccflary to moderate the
heat natural to sheep, which refills all cold
wiyds but cannot endure humidity.
3. They atall times keep their (heep clean
©f ticks, who are generated by poverty dirt,
cold, dan-ms and illhealt *.
I have laid, poverty is kept off by a
plenty of food ; dirt and colds are kept off
by a citculariug air, under a cover which
flickers them from snow and rains in the !
winter—and they keep them clean of ticks
by means of an ointment, (which I fitali de
feribe) they rub on 111 October annually in
the following manner, and for t:ris reakni
the fiie 4 licrds call October, the waving
month.
To falvc a fiieep ; the fiiepherd parts
the wool with las fingcro on the Lack bone
• from the head to the end of the tan, then
with two fingers rub the unction plentifully
©nthe skin or flesh; io that the ointment
may spread by heat ol the body two or three
inches down each fide from the ridge
'fcone.
The fliepherd then parts the wool ar. be
fore, two or three inchesfrom the ridge bone,
and rubs the un&ion as before in iuch abun
dance, as it will ipreaii two or three inches
downwards, then coutinue the fame method
•ill aronnl the (heep. The (hepherd will
salve a score of flieep in 011 c day ; an i the
unCtion will kill and deltro/ ail ticks, cure
•and prevent the scab, iolten and supple the
skin, promote the growth and incrcafe the
‘quantity of w'ool. l’he (heep being-freed
of ticks will be quiet, comfortable and heal
thy, whether (at or lean, and whether with !
a large fleece on or (horn. The expenie and
and trouble is too linall to be mentioned,
when compared to the profit, advantage,
and humanity of the action. Thus to ame
liorate the condition of the flieep in Atneri
•a will incrcafe their numbers, and the
finenefs and quantity of wool, and there
by enable the inhabitants to lupply their j
wants without the help of Europe.
Conmr ring the dhadvantageous com
