are or may be stationed, mar
ched, or recruited, within the
ft ate of Maftachu fetes, the town
of Springfield, and the ddtrift of
Maine, excepted.
Fifteenth, At Portsmouth,
Portland, and ac any place or
places, where tro°ps ate or may
be stationed, marched, or re
cruited within the state of New
Hampshire and the diftrift of
Maine.
Sixteenth, PropOlals will alio
be received as aforefidd, for the
supply of all rat ions, which may
be required by the U- States,
for the troops which are or may
be stationed, marched or re
cruited within the town of
Springfield in the state of Mas
sachusetts,, and for the armour
ers and other persons employed
in the United States armoury at
thar place, from the ift day of
January ISOG to the 31st day of
December in the fame year, both
days inclusive.
A ration to consist of one
pound and orre quarter of Beef,
or three quarters of a pound of
pork, eighteen ounces of breid
or flour, one gill of rum, whis
ky or brandy, and at the race of
two quarts of fair, four quarts of
vinegar, four pounds of soap,
and one pound and a half of can
dles, to every hnndred rations.
The prices of the fevrral com
ponent parts of the ration shall
be fpecifled; but the United
Scutes ref.'rve tire right of ma
king such alterations in the price
of the component parrs of the
ration aforefaid, as lhall make
the price of each part thereof
bear a just; proportion to the
proposed price of the whole rS

furnilhed in such quantities, that

, General Orders.
The Adjutant General will
again proceed to the duties re
quired of him by the 16th sec
tion of the militia law of this
state. In inftancfs, however,
where manifeft inconvenience
wiil arise in convening the Field,
Staff and company officers bv re
giment, or where the objeft of
such convention can not yer be
fully answered, the Brigadier
General of each brigade, in which
the difficulty may occur, will, in
lieu thereof, adopt such mode as
he may deem heft calculated
for the more efftftually inftruft
ing those officers in 1 the difcipliue
preferibed by Congress.
The brigade infpeftors,will al
io punctually attend to the du
ties required of them in the
aforementioned clause of the
militia law ; and the command
ing officers of brigdts, regi
ments and battalions, are called
on to aft in concert with the
Adjutant General and Brigade
infpeftors, by ordering conven
tions of Field, Staff and compa
ny officers as well as regimen
tal and battalion musters at such
times as they may be notified by
the adjutant general and brigade
infpeftors that they will attend
them for the purpefes exprtfted
in Lid law.
The brigade infpeftors will
report to ti e a ijutant general,
and the adjutant general to the
commander in chief, those corns
i
in which the i6ch feftion of the
militia law f. i!s to be carried in
to effeft, during the present po
litical year, and if poflible, the
cause of such failure.
The adjutant general will
make known to the comman
ding officer of each regiment,
the number of his regimanc and
the number of the battalion and
diftrid companies attached to it,
by whom the commanding of
ficers of battalions ’ and compa
nies will be made acquainted
with the fame ; to the end that
after such notification, in all re
turns ofeleflions for militia of
ficers, the number of the compa
ny or battalion tor which any
ekftion is held, may be expres
sed in the following manner : if
for a company diftridt, the num
ber thereof and of the battalion
to which it is attached wirh the
name of the county j and if for
a battalion and iff rid, the number
ohereof and of the regiment to
which it is attached, with the
nmae of the county.
Returns of elections for officers
of new created district companies
must be accompanied with the
proceedings of the regimental
court of enquiry, so far as relates
to he number of effe&ive men
in tire new created oompanv

The commanding officers of
regiments will cause the lift pa
ragraph of these orders to be en
tered in their refpedive orderly
