FROM the rumVr of
TRACKS of LAND expofecl
to faie by the regiflt-r for taxes,
t would seem that (he Non
lb fident land holders are either
ignorant of our laws, or confi
'erably embarrafled for the want
of agents, in whom confidence
may b* placed, and whole firu
ation and acquaintance with bu
siness will enable them to dis
charge with promptness the du
ties required of them-
That there are forr.e who for
want of information’of what cur
laws require to be done, have
fufF-red their lands to be fold
or the tax, l have no doubr, and
lor their informant)!, will give
a fiior statement of our laws on
that iubjeift. But lam sensible
that many more have luffered
from a misplaced confidence in
agents who c u!d not or would
nut attend to the duties required
of them. Men who live at a di
fiance from Frankfort, where
raxes on non-refluents’ land are
paid, mull find it more inconve
nient to discharge the duties of
an agmt than a citizen of the
town. Yet it is believed that at
icaft nineteen twentieths of thole
gentlemen who aft as agents for
nun-rrfid nts, live dilperfed at
confiJerable distances fro n this
place. And to this cause may
be atiribu eda great part of th. ir
omifiion and ncgleft of duty.—
For it may happen that at the
time of receiving moaey it is
ou! o’ their power ro pay it im
mediately into the Treatury, but
they think it fliall be done as
loon us fit opportunity occurs;
in the mean rune fome preifing
occation or pleasing fpeculatioi,
induces t'.em to make ule ofit,
which they cannot again colleft
till the lands ate fold. Bat a
citizen of the town coulj always
pay over the money on receiving
it, which would often save the
cofis of advertising the lands.—
And opportunities of tranfmit
ung money to this place arc
more lase and frequent than to
molt other places m the Scate, as
tlie Poll from the Euftward once
* Week; besides private convey
ances, which are numerous. If
there fiiould be any danger ap
prehended Iron tlie mail being
robbed, the B;nk Bills may b.
cut into two or more pieces anu
tranl'iiitted by different polls.—
Th. fc an ong other realons wliicr.
might be adduced, have indu:eu
me to believe that a person in
whom confidence could be pla
ced, iiving at tins place, and ac
quainted with bufinels, wh
wouid take upon himfelf the pay
ment of taxes for rvon-Reficents
.on a moderate comnr.iiiou, would

herefore determined to offer mv
rrvices to and

he kind done at th : s place, 011
he following terms :
On being furniflied with mo
ney in time, I will attend the re
peftive offices, pay the Taxes,
procure quietuses therefor, an I
ransmit duplicates thereof to the
droprietors of the land, to the
nearest poft-oflue where thev
efide, for fifty cents on each traft
of land, and five per ccr.t, on th
imount of the MX, See. charged

that regular accounts fliould be
tept of the money received and
paid away by rr.t, I preiume these
icrms will not be though high.
