LETTERS FROM THE PEOPLE
A LETTER FROM ONE OF THE
ORIGINAL OLD GUARD.
Managing Editor; As I have been
an unacquainted friend of Mr. Wat
sons for some several years (I mean
personally) wish to say a few things
about him, but will not direct to
him; for fear he might read what
we say. We know if you print this
you will have it in the lonesome
part of the paper out of his sight.
We are one of the immortal 78
delegates to a state Democratic con
vention that boldly walked out at
the front door of said convention,
and assisted Col. L . L. Polk in or
ganizing a Populist Party paper in
this state; then it was that I hooked
on to Mr. Watson and commenced
to read the People’s Party paper,
published in Atlanta by Mr. Watson.
I was for Watson when in Congress,
I was for Watson when they stole

THE JEFFERSONIAN
the election from him in his race for
Congress, I was for Watson when the
Foxy Butler forgot to mail the offi
cial legal document; I was for Wat
son when they hooked on Gold Bug
Sewell to help ride on that double
back-action-centre-fire platform with
Bryan; I stayed with Watson; picked
up my marbles and swore by the
Eternal I would not play. I did not
vote for Bryan and never have, but
I tagged with Watson. I am with
Watson when he takes the side of
the weak against the strong, and
that is six days in the week; I was
for Watson when those New York
Snollygosters Istole his New Yo?*k
magazine. I read with much inter
est your account as well as that of
Mr. Watson, about the House Warm
in of The Jeffs, but 1' got out my
razor when Mr. Watson said you
could not write the matter up; then
I got on my ear when he said you
flew the roost and would not make
a speech, and took shelter at the
citadel; now have 1 not been married
long enough to know that a woman
never fails to speak, and have the
last speech? I would have enjoyed
being at that warming, not to have
made a speech, but would have got
up, opened my mouth wide and look
ed wise.
If I am on this side of the great
divide July the 4th, and can raise
enough of the ducats cf the realm
to get a rail road hobo ticket and
have something to pay a night’s
rest and a marble top head and a
few water sandwiches, I will go
down and put in a few words.
Will say ,if that yellow legged
Yankee of Atlanta will come over
here and abuse an old Confederate
Veteran, as he has said to have done
in Atlanta, he will be allowed time
only to check his baggage, and if
the Georgia Veterans out side of the
Home have the same grit in them
that 1' saw displayed on the battle
field in Virginia often, he will have
to pull his freight train from that
Soldier’s Home in Atlanta.

HOW LAND SWINDLES ARE
WORKED.
Hon. Thomas E. Watson, Thomson,
Ga.
Dear Mr. Watson: I have been
very much interested in your disposi
tion of Mr. Seely. I believe he is
guilty, especially of that land fraud.
And as you made mention of that St.
Andrews Bay Fraud, I could not help
but laugh. It brought back to my
memory that I was one of the swin
dled in that deal, and thinking that
you would like to have and look over
a genuine copy of their deed, which
will give names that you will like to
have some time, I hope.
With best wishes for a prosperous
and happy New Year, I am,
Respectfully your,
COLUMBIA COUNTY FRIEND.

F*LAIISI TRUTH
A MONTHLY MAGAZINE, 32 PAGES
By J. A. SCARBORO,
A Son of Georgia, Minister and
Student.
This Magazine is digging up and
exposing corruption and graft in
"Missions”. Its Editor has studied
the subject fifteen years, published
two books on the subject and knows
what he is doing. Dr. J. N. Hall,
late Editor of the Baptist Flag, the
most widely circulated Baptist pa
per in the South, with whom Scar
boro was associated as Editor of
that paper, said of him: “J. A. Scar
boro is the best informed man on
Missions* in America.” The cham
pions of the present system have
declined to meet him in both press
and on rostrum. His Magazine Is
full of facts, evidence and argu
ments which can not be refuted. He
is Treasurer of the General Asso
ciation of Baptist Churches, and has
the confidence and enjoys the en
dorsement of his brethren. He is
Pastor of one of the best churches
in the land and just in his prime
and in the thickest of the battle for
truth and righteousness.
