The remains of Mr. Josiah Keith, one of the
three young gentlemen lost in Savannah River
about four weeks since, have been found on Hil
ton-Head, and were brpught up to town yester
day and interred with Masonic Honors.

Two of the counterfeiters, Calvin* and Jones,
who made their escape from jail a few nights a
fo wore apprehended in Bulloch county about
42 m.!es from town on Saturday last, and were
returned to their former lodgings, escorted by

The third made his escape.

The following was received last evening by
the postmaster of tins town :

ed to shore, the schr. Juno, of Sa.ein, from the
Banks of Cape Cod. She has neither mas's nor
living pel son on board. We have found one
young man dead in the cabin; have secured part
oftiie paigo, and are now endeavoring to secure

benefit cf the concerned.”

Shipwreck. —The schr. Buffalo. Cobb, from j
Boston boftnd to this port, with a cargo of dry
goods, provisions, fish, wool, &c. went ashore on
Tuesday, the oth inst. in a storm, between the
east end of Gardner’s Island and Montaug. The
vessel had not bilged last Sunday, but leaked
some, and capt. Cobb expected to save all the
cargo if the weather was moderate. The deck
load, consisting of grindstones, had been landed.

The Senate then resumed the considera
tion of the proposition introduced by Mr.
R. M. Johnson, of Kentucky, to amend ihej
Constitution.
Mr. Johnson, of Kentucky, resumed the
speech which he commenced yesterday, in
support of his resolution, and spoke about
two hours. YV hen he had concluded.
Mr. Holmes, of Maine, rose to offer an a

when any prison, coming with in the provi
sions ofthe sets to which this issuppremen
tary, shail, by reason of bodily infirmity,

sclieduie and furnish t!ie evidence by soiii
acts required, it shall be lawful for an)’
judge of a court of record, in the district,
city, county, or borough, in which such per
son resides, to attend at his place of *b"de,
and receive his schedule and oath of affirm*
ation; and said judge shall certify t at
said applicant was, from bodily infirmity,
unable to attend such court, which sched
ule, and oatli of affirmation, and cei tificate,
shall by said judge be produced in the
court of which he is judge, and the opinion
of said court of the value of the property
contained in said schedule, shall be enter
ed thereon, and certified hy the clerk of
said court; and such schedule shall be val
id tot all the purposes contemplated by the
acts aforesaid.
Sec. 3. Jlnd be it further enacted, That
pensions granted upon other and different
schedules than those heretofore exhibited
hy <he same applicants, shall commence
from the time such schedules shall be filed
in court.
The bill was twice read and commit
ted.
On motion of Mr. Sergeant, it was
Resolved, That the committee on com
merce be instructed to inquire whether any
alteration is necessary in the laws defining
the limits o£ the port of Philadelphia, or
the bounds within which the officers of the
customs of that port may be required to
perform their respective duties.
On motion of Mr. J. T. Johnson, of Ky.
the house agreed to consider (ayes 69, notes
49,) a resolution by him submitted on a for
mer day, directing the committee on mili
tary affairs to inquire into the expediency
of establishing a national manufactory of
arms, <Sj - c.on the western waters; and the
same was thereupon adopted.
Mr. Scott laid on the table the following
resolution:
Resolved, That the secretary of war be
requested to report to this house a state
ment, shewing the number of soldiers who
have received their bounty lands for servi
ces rendered during the late war; the quan
tity of land received by them; the number
of soldiers yet entitled to receive bounty
land; and the quantity of land that will
be required to satisfy their claims, over and
above what has been set apart by former
acts of congress.
Mr. Gilmer laid the following resolution ,
on the table:

Mr. Nelson, of Md. withdrew the reso
lution under discussion yesterday in the
house, nd in lieu thereof ottered the fol

has an equal right to participate in the ben
efit of toe public lands, the common pro
perty of the union.
Resolved, That the state 9 in whose fa
vor congress has not made appropriations
of land for the purpose of education, are
entitled to such appropriations as will cor
respond in a just proportion with those
heretofore made in favor of the other
states.

suance of the foregoing resolutions,
