We are requested by Janies M. Wayne Es
to state, that he docs not wish to be conside
as a candidate for the Senate, at the next rb.

[We regret that the convenience of Judge ,
Wayne should not permit him to yield to the
wishes of our citizens. His nomination gave
great satisfaction; ami no gentleman, we believe,
could serve *he public with” more honesty and

could have been no doubt of his election.

which have been presented by the executive.
It is probable, therefore, that on this ques

people are fully with the government. In

Mr. Cocke thought that the subject em
braced by die resolutions was one which

, LIVERPOOL MARKETS.
“LIVERPOOL, Jan. 30.—The saie of American ;
Cotton last week, was about 4700 bags; of which I
2200 were by auction—prices rather lower than ;
when we last wrote. The best uplands Which j
you can send us, will scarcely bring 9Ad, and j
they cost near ll Jd.”
“FIT KUARY 1.--'The Havre market is not
active, by last, accounts from that place -but they
say they expect theN. Orleans Cotton will bring
34 a 35 sous.”
“FEBRUARY I.—Cotton still comes in freely,
[and is as freely sold when purchasers can be
found. The imports in January from all parts
were 29,832, and the sales during the same time
are estimated at about 28 to 29,000 bags of Up
land Cotton at from 8 to lOAd, but averaging on
ly 9 a 9J; which cannot leave a less loss than 20
to 40s per bag; and from present appearances
there is not the least prospect of improvement;
unless your crops should rtgilly prove to have
been injured and curtailed in quantity; in which
event, even to a moderate extent, tlie consump
tion would, in all probability, overtake the sup
ply of American Cotton, and cause a very impor
tant advance to take place.” But, even in such
an event, we cannot foresee any advance equal
to the anticipations of shippers, who are, by last
advices from Charleston and Savannah paying 15
to 18 cts. for Upland Cotton. To repay such
prices and leave to the adventurer a moderate
profit, even counting 10 per cent, premium on
bills in his favor, an advance of 2d per lb. here
would be necessary; and whenever an advance
approaching this takes place, then F.ast India cot
ton will be used more extensively, and will check
both the prices and consumption of American
Cotton.’!
“FEHRUA ftY 2.—Our market is languid, and
