I 1 lit subscriber respectfully submits to the

PROPOSALS, .
For publishing at JITIfEJVS, in the State of Geor

ATIIhNEUM.
IN a community of Freemen, and where a
disposition to patronise Literature and Sci

of a well conducted Newspaper, must, of ne

a reading people, such a paper can hardly fail
of being acceptable That the Atl.eneum will
be a paper of this description, it might perhaps
be deemed presumptuous to assert; but, so tar
as the ell'orts of the Editor can render it useful,
so far as persevering industry am! attention can
insure success to his undertaking—so far, at
least, the subscriber can pledge himself, that
he will endeavor to render his paper worth

tlie flu fishing University of the Slate isleca

and wealthy neighborhood, has induced i- oe ief
that no place in the upper country presented a
more inviting opening for the establishing a

opinion has led to the present proposals, and
the subscriber fiatiers lon, self, that, in the lib

through this medium, to aid him, and benefit
the community.
To make Ins paper useful, will be the propri

tins object, lie will endeavor to give the earliest
Foreign and Domestic Intelligence, with such
portions ofCriigressional mat er, when the Na

will allow—together with such original • r *e

lie editor may occasionally err, it is to be ho

of rejecting, as well as of inserting cuinftmnica

As an editor it. will he his interest—as it will
be, under all circumstances, his inclination—
io give general satisfaction. From the line of
impartial duly, he will endeavor not to depart;
and none shall have cause to accuse him of vol
untarily giving a needless offence to a single in
dividual.
