Opposition Meeting.
A respectable number of the mem
bers of the American and Opposition
Party of Clarke county convened in
the Court House, in Watkinsville on
Tuesday, the 9th day of August,
1859, and aftter being adddressed
by Col. W. Foster, in his usual felici-
tious manner, were organized by
calling James C. Branch, Esq., to
the Chair and the appointment of
John Calvin Johnson as*Secrctar^
On motion of Capt. W. H. Dorsey,
a ballot was had for two candidates
to represent the county of Clarke in
the House of Representatives in the
next Legislature of Geargia, which
resulted in the nomination of
EDWARD I*. LUMPKIN, Esq.
THOMAS W.WALKER, Esq.
On motion of Stephen Jackson, Esq.
Col. JOHN BILLUPS was then
nominated by acclamation, as the can-
dated for Senator, for said county.
Resolved, that these proceedings
he published in the Southern Watch
man.

At tlie meeting of the Royal Agri
! cultmal Society in Warwick, Eng-
