There are some serious objections to an
Association in Athens, such as the charac
ter ot the population, the uncertainty of
bolding proporty and the want of confi
dence aa to tbe future, in reference to the
enforcement of law, Ac.; for six, sovon,
eight or more years would be required to
cloae an Association.
Bat these and other objections might be
overcome, by entering into it on a mutual
system, each shareholder being plodged to
sustain it in any emergency. A good
thing ought to exist; a Loan Association
is a good thing; therefore, a Loan Associ
ation ought to exist, and perhaps its very
oxistcnce would to much ameliorate the
condition of its shareholders, as also the
community, to such oxtenl pecuniarily,
that most ot the objections would be over
como.
1 suggest that each person desiring to
renew their subscriptions, or others wish
ing lo enter an Association, give their
names lo mo, with the number of shares
they wish, and, if warrantable, a meeting
will bo called to re-organize the “Athens
Mutual Loan Association,” organized Msr.
1801, and suspended in consequence of the
war. I. M. KKNNKY,

to get rid of the annoyance, told him to
put them in a barrel with a cat that had
