The mongrel negro-white-Choctaw Sonator from Mississippi, the successor of Jefferson Davis, mado a speech in the Senate one day last wook. It is said that a vast crowd of ne groes and whites filled the galleries. A speech from a negro creates a great sensa tion in Washington. We remember but two occasions last winter when any body’s speech was received with even common politeness. Tho most marked of those was tho fifteen mi nutes’ harangue of “ Mr. Menard,” so-called, a mulatto fellow who bad received some votes in New Orleans, and claimed tbe right to repre sent tho “ Imoty and beauty” of that city in the House. A pin conld have been beard drop du ring tbe delivery of his rambling remarks. Sambo “On a Bender.” The colored Bullock delegation to Washing ton, from tho Legislature of Georgia, seems to bnvo excited some attention along tbo route. The Knoxville Press <0 Herald says, “ a lot of the colored members of the Georgia Legis lature passed through Knoxville on Friday. Their business, from what we saw of them at the depot, was a general drunken spree, at tbe expense of the Georgia tax-payers.” Tho Lynchburg Hews says: “About a do-, zen negro members (so-called) of tho Georgia Legislature passed through tilts city Saturday morning, an route to Washington, to assist Bullock and his clique of dirty Radicals in de feating the Georgia bill now pending before tbo Senate. Somo of tho party wore bard looking crabs, and wo may say in tho languago of a friend who saw them, that they were “ ad amantine nnts.” If they shonld happen to camp anywhere in onr neighborhood we shontd keep a sharp eye on our old rooster, tough as ho is.” ■ Pretty Hot. Tho telegrams have told us of an amendment to the Georgia bill offered in tbo Sonatc, on Tuesday, by that Radical qunckcr, Drake, of Missouri. It will bo seen that it is pretty hot. Wo suggest that the President make Drake a Major General and put hint in command of tho troops sent to Georgia on this errand: Mr. Drake offered an amendment, providing that whenever any Legislature of the late rebel States, or tbe Governor thereof, represents to the President that an organization exists therein for the perpetration of acts of violenco against persons nnd property, or to obstruct the laws of tho Fodoral or State Government, and it U unable to suppress such violence or obstruction, it shall be the duty of the Presi dent to fnrnisb United States'troops for the subjugation and disporeiou of such organiza tions. Hero the crown of glory was secured, and the story was indostri onsly set afloat in Atlanta that, but for tho su perhuman exertions of Hulbert, tho fifty miles wonld have been lost. The foremen and laborers waited with pa tience tho arrival of J."Edwin Conant. He came, passed ovortho work and reached tho men’s camp, and there had laid before him their many bitter complaints. They asked cither that Halbert shonld be removed, or that they bo paid their just dnes and bo permitted to leave tho work; but as they were laying (ono hundred nnd twenty men) ono milo and a quar ter of track per day, every means was resorted to to keep thorn on the work.
