A correspondent of the Atlanta Constitution under date of Monday, says the meningitis is spreading rapidly in Jonesboro. There have been ten deaths, and great alarm prevails. ..More than three millions of dollars passed through the bands of lumber men, at Darien, last year. Mr. Carlton Colo, Jr., and Mr. James Ralston had a personal difficulty, at the Lanier House, in Macon, on Sunday, in which pistols were free ly used. • Five shots were fired, three by Cole and two by Ralston, the latter received a seri ous wound in the left side of his face, tho bail passing around tbo jaw and under the ear, lodging in the back of the neck, from which it was extracted. The Telegraph pronounces tho wound not necessarily fatal. ..The Columbus Aa)b*»*5«t definitely ascertained wnac oocamo of the negro who murdered tbe little white boy in Harris coun ty, on Sunday. He confessed the crime, and it authentically reported that while being carried to Talbotton jail bo was “lost.” - -It is contemplated to start another large cotton mill at Columbus, of the same capacity of the Eagle and Phoenix Mills—20,000 spindles —on lots between that property and tbe Mus cogee Company. Experienced manufacturers of means are moving in the matter. Columbus will then have three mills, running 50,000 spin dles. Rev. Mr. Singleton, of Forsyth, has per fected an invention of an agricultural ma chine intended to facilitate and equalize dis tribution of guano, and to sow seed with regu larity and dispatch, which tbe Monroe Adver tiser thinks will do all that is claimed ibr It. A patent will be applied for. . -The people of Angnsta are talking about building dyker or levees to prevent the Savan nah from overflowing its banks. The late in undation, which was of sufficient magnitude to afford good boating facilities in Rome of the streets, seems to have aroused public attention to tbe importance of providing against such visitations. > ..A Greensboro correspondent of the Con stitution, under date of the 14th, writes as fol lows : Yesterday, the 13th instant, occured a fatal recontre between Messrs'. A. H. Evans ; and Jesse Nunn, of Taliaferro county, in which Evans, with a rifle gun, shot Nunn through the thigh, cutting a large artery therein, and killed him within a few hours. The homicide oc curred at or near Evans’ bouse, about four miles from Crawfordville. Evans is still at large. Inherited a Large Fortune.—We heard it currently reported in bigh circles that married gentleman and bis sister of high social position in Columbos, had received notification that in the death of a distant relative they were heirs to fonr millionsof dollars in England. The landing bill, as it passed the Senate, provides for tbe issue of 400,000,000 of cou pons, or registered 10-40 year bonds, bearing 5 per cent, coin internet, for disposal in the United States, or elaewbere, at not less than par value for coin, or in exchange for 5-20 bonds of equal aggregate par ralne; also, for four hundred millions 15-40 year bonds, bearing 4i per cent, coin interest for similar disposal, at not less than par value for coin, or the re demption of bonds bearing a higher rate of in terest ; also for the issue of fonr hundred mil lions of 20-40 year bonds bearing 4 per cent, coin Interest for similar disposal at not less than .par value for coin, or redemption of out standing bonds. A further issue of tho last named bonds is authorized at tho discretion of tbe Secretary of the Treasury, provided the aggregate debt of tho United States is not thereby increased. D. Ware. of Jackson county, deaghter oi Mr. Asa J. and Mrs A. Ware, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on the 3d of March, 1870, aged 33 years and 13 days. She was violently attacked with a chill on Snnday nvening, tha 37th ofFebrnary, saddled Thursday, the 3d of March, at the residence of Mr. Levi Martin, of tbo samo county. Bb. was a member of the Baptist ehureh. embraced religion when quit* yoang, and bad always tried te Uve in discharge of all of her Christian duties. She wa* beloved by all who know bar, and has loll a larg.eirelo of friends to mourn her loss. The sympathy with her bereaved parents, brothers and sister is widely extended. Onr beloved Bailie wae engaged in teaching a school at Martin Spring ehnreb. She had great infiuence over her atodents, and left a deep impression on their ton dar hearts.
