A lew years ago l had considerable ex
perience with kicking.cows, and l$y far
i he best remedy out of quite a number
that I tried, was the Btrapwor. surcitigle^
drawn vighly around thd Cow just in'front
of the hips and close to the bag. Tighten
it till she does not attempt to kick. I ni ver
knew it to fail; yon can gradually loosen
or leave it off until she makes no efforts
to kick with ij,'tight or on Kick' she,

I tried it on was the 'worst 1 over* saw.
With both hind legs lied together' she
would kick backwards like a horse, then
in addition, one foreleg waa tied up, and
she would stand on the other' and. t kick
wiili both hind ones, us soon as an at
tempt was made to milk her, till she tum
bled down; then would got up and kick
again until tired oot; so the milk was
generally left on tbo slablo floor, and it
was decided to dry her up aud beef her

Seeing the surcingle remedy in the “ Coun

Sore Care foe Dysentery.
An old observer sends the Atlanta Con
stitution the following :
A spoonful or two of pure, raw wheat
flour, thinned with water so it ran lie ea
sily drank Tfiere'Ar four doses taken u
intervals of ten or twelve hours, will cure
any case not ubsoliitely chronic; aud from
what I have witnessed, I feel sure it is one
of the beat remedies in the world for
chronic diseases. To make tho dose pal
atable for children, it can bo sweetend and
flavored with some drops not acid.
Some forty years ago the dysentery
prevailed throughout the Northern States
to an alarming extent, killing thousands;
and in the midst of it some one published
this remedy, whioh was everywhere udop
ted and worked'like a charm, curing thou
sands, and I now, an old man, have known
hundreds of cases cored,'by it since. It
seems to have the effect to check the dis
ease and at tho same time restore the in
ner coaling to the bowels, which the doc
tors tell us is lost by tho disease.

the building, and as far as the point attracts, it briugs
p the rod and passes it to the ground silently, and it
s very seldom that a good rod receires a stroke
upon it, and ifmrod is connected with mout earth it
will always act ns silent conductor.
In proof we offer a statement of Mr E. A. IVilsun,
of LaGroase, Wit. He says, iu digging a cellar to his
bouse, be found at the end of bis lightning rod (which
was iron terminated in a sandy soil) that the sand bad
been fated, forming a glass tube three quarters of ts
inch in diameter, nnd be states he 1 pulled up a piers
four feet long, and if tb* rod bad been down te moist
earth there would bare been no such discharge of elec
tricity to eaose that effect.
Operation or Rods.
A farmer in Lee oounty, Illinois, who was ignorant
of this silent operation of the joint, told us how be ac
cidentally discovered it: he was engaged in pullings
god on bis own bouse just at theapproscb of athunuu
shower. Ho bad placed the upper and lower parts is
their proper position, and aw he attempted to consort
tbsm together'there was such a succession of spstki
between them that he and hit hired man both dropped
their work and ran away iu gteat terror, bul ss t'oe
rod swung away a few inches, tbe sparks eeased sr d
they ventured^to make another attempt to connect
them; again the sparks returned like a stream «(in,
anfi the hired man declared he would not interfere with
the work nf thVAImigjity, but tho farmer happened tt
jdlh the oarts and ho more sparks were seen. No one
can estimate theam-uotof property and lives preserv
ed by this silent notion of lightning rods.
