The following amusing scone, which occur red recently in an American family, will be found not uninteresting to our readers. Tbe chief role is played by money, tbe prime mov er iu such affairs. An eye wituess recited to us tbe occurrence in tbe following words : One evening that I took tea with an inti mate friend of mine, while wo wore seated at tbe table, Mr. Baker, my friend's husband, while absently feeling in bis vest pocket, found a five dollar note which be bad no recollec tion of putting there. Halloa !' be exclaimed, * that is no place for you. 1 should have put you in my pocket book. Here, wife, don't you want some ready monoy V and be threw tbe note across tbe table to her. •Many tbanss,’ she replied, ’money is al ways acceptable, although 1 bavo no present use lor it.' Sbo folded the note and put it under tbe edge of tbe tea tray, and they pro ceeded to pour out tbe tea aud attend to tbe wauts of her guests. At her right sat Mrs. Easton or Aunt Su san. whom we all knew as an acquaiutauce who from time to time spent a week with Mrs. Baker. Her visit was just at an end and sbo was about to return borne that evening. As Mrs. Baker was pouring out her tea, it occur red to her that she was iu her aunt's debt for certain small matters, and w hen she bad tbe opportunity sbo pushed tbe note under ber plate, saying: * Here, aunty, take this five dollars in part payment of my debt.' * Very well,’ 6be replied, ‘ but tbe money- does not belong to me. I owe you fifteen dol lars, my dear Grace, w hich you lent me last Saturday. 1 bad to pay tbe taxes on my little bonse and bad not tbe ready money and Grace lent it to me,’ exclaimed Aunt Susan. Grace, an orpbau, was a cousin to Mrs. Ba ker. She and her brother Frank boarded with ber, and made a very pleasant addition to tbe family circle. Sbo was studying music and ber brother was a clerk in a mercantile establishment. As soon as Aunt Susan received tbe noto, sbo banded it to Grace, saying : ' I will give you this now on account, and tbe rest as soon as I get it-' * All right,' answered Grace, laughing, * and since we all seem in tbe humor to pay our debts, I will follow suit. We were all highly amused to see how the bank note wandered around tbe table. * This is a wonderful note,’ said Mr. Baker, I only w ish somebody owed me something and I owed somebody something, so that I could come into tho ring.’ You can,’ said Frank. ‘ I owe Airs.
