The question which most affects the
present and future prosperity ot Atheus
and ull of Northeast Georgiy hangs upon
the decision of one man. Should our Go
vernor give the State’s endorsement to
the In mils of the Northeastern Railroad
•'ompanx, it will he placet! in a condition
to enable it to carry on aud extend the
enterprise tt> its Northern terminus, so
that the road will become not only one ot
tlte greatest freight lines in the State, but
one of the most popular and best passeu-
foliow the opening up of this important
railroad connection, and in view of the ad
ditional fact that the recent decision of
the Supreme Court leaves the whole ques
tion in the discretion of the Governor,
may we not hope and believe that our
Chief Magistrate will come forward and
give us the State’s endorsement, which
was the evident intention and expectation
of our Legislature, and which, we verily
believe, would redound more to the iuterest
of the State at large than any single act
the Governor could perform.

There will be a public meeting

8 o’clock, on which occasion
King will

well,. Esq., the Grand Counsellor of t^ie
Good Templars of this State will be pres

The public generally are cordially in
vited to attend.
Dr. King is too well-known to our citi-
zeuB, as a public speaker, to require any
commendation at our hands. We would
simply say, that all who attend may ex
pect something “rich, rare and racy.”
We trust that the Doctor will have a “ full
house,” as his subject is one in which our
whole community is deeply interested.

On Friday night last, sis Mr. George Alex

recognized by Mr. Waters, near the market
house, as one he hatl filled with kerosene

OUIt WHOLESALE TRADE. 1
A Truly mammoth Eatabliahmeai.
A few days ago we “ dropped iff* ^the
Store of Messrs. Reaves & Nicholsqp, which
has recently beeu greatly enlarged and im
proved for the reception of the Fall jjtock
of goods.
We found Capt R. K, Reaves, the jpnior
member of the firm, who has proven By his
brilliant career of the past few years that
what he does uqt know about merchan
dizing is not worth kuowing,” busily, en
gaged in receiving and properly arranging
stupendous stock of Groceries, Provis
ions, Staple Dry Goods, Factory Goods,
Hardware, Wooden-Ware, Ac., Sec. We
hazard nothing in saying that* this ..is by
far the largest and best stock of goods ev
er brought to Northeast Georgia, and one
of the largest in the State.
What we wish to caU the attention of
tho people to is, that where such immense
stocks are purchased, it enables UiJ-fiaer
chant to s611 very lorn—much lower, tyran
where a small stock is bought—1
instead ef getting rt-few
of freight at a time, they not only tatesve
by the car load, but by the train load—
thus not only saving by buying at Whole
sale, but by getting a great reduction on
freights.
This is a matter worthy of the most care
ful consideration of country merchants and
all others buying goods. And as these
gentlemen are well known as being thor
oughly reliable, straightforward and up
right in all their dealings, everybody can
place the utmost confidence in them. They
also have a corps of book-keepers and
clerks who, for integrity’ and honesty can
not he excelled.

The uew Constitution will certainly be
